I'm happy for you Lucy. My neighbor is always giving me his trimming but I can never get them to root. By the way if you like forsythia I think I saw two of them blooming next to the road just before you get to the shop on the side of the road at the empty lot. I'm gonna dig one one up. You can have one if you want it. They are blooming yellow flowers right now. Deer won't eat them or they would be gone, lol.

Kristy I will be happy to share some rooted Rosmary with ya. Depending on how many there are...I am sure I can spare a few with ya.

Got 2 little forsythia sticks lol Thanks to the Arbor Day Foundation. I am suprised the Deer don't eat them. They look so yummie lol

Lucy, I should try laying down the branches of my rosemary. I recently put some rosemary cuttings (and bay leaf) in soil trying to root some for a garden gathering my group is having in April. I have a huge plant in the backyard and there is a smaller one in the front yard. Someone told me they could easily root rosemary in sand and something else (forgot), anyway, at the time I still didn't succeed using their method.

Thanks Lucy. I might try one but I think I am allergic to his. When I water his front bed with so many in them I sneeze and itch all day.

Kristy, I too have an allergic reaction to my mom's large shrubs of rosemary when I'm giving them their spring haircuts. When I use it in cooking, I'm fine, so I think its just the quantity flaring up what would otherwise be an extremely minor allergy.

I have not been sucessful with geting rosemary to root from cuttings. I have a rosemary plant but it grows really slowely :(
I will try making the branches touch the soil, to root.

Kristy heck no. I am sure I find other things to share with you but not stuff you are allergic too lol. You ARE my friend you know ;-)

Eloise and Siam I put mine in by the house and it grows really fast. I have to trim it down a lot. Hence me trying to root them lol. Underneath the plant is pine bark and the soil isn't the greatest. But since the bush is against the house I guess that is why the lower branches grew down and out. Thus rooting great. I am sure if you have the branches flat on the soil they will root. I surely will try again with more. Got 8 cut off today and just stuck them in a pre made flowerbed for now.

Yes I think its because he has so many. I cook with it too and it doesn't bother me but the smell is very strong and I have to wade through them to get to the hose faucet so I think its just the large amount of them in one place. I had a purple sage I had to move farther from the porch because it did the same thing to me but I love to see the flowers.

Ah Lucy, Rosemary is such a wonderful plant. It does not grow year around here for us. I had one in my house for a long time and used to cook with it. I will have to grow some seeds of it again.

I would have thought they would have been easy to root. But the layering method works so dawg gone well and is easy enough if you are not to impatient tugging on the piece you've covered with soil. ha ha ha

I'm really having zone envy now. :)

Hopefully today I will remember to go lay some bottom branches on the soil! I use Rosemary to cook with sometimes, but lately I've mostly used it in Rosemary cookies!

Rosemary cookies????? Can you please elaborate Eloise? Are they really cookies?

Tj and Lucy, yes this cookie mix includes a bit of chopped Rosemary! If you want to impress your friends (make it your gardening friends because the others don't get it, LOL!) bake some of these cookies. I put them in a box and on the lid, I taped a sprig of Rosemary and my gardening group was very impressed! I'll email you both the recipe including the Cayenne cookie recipe. That's right, this one includes cayenne pepper and it is also delicious!

I love to bake rosemary potatoes in the oven. You just mix chopped rosemary, olive oil, and smashed garlic, with potatoes that have been pealed, and sliced, add salt and pepper. Bake on a cookie sheet until done.

When we had the floods about 2 years ago, I lost quite a few of my rosemary. I had one that survived, I trimed it down to about half of it size, and it died. I found out later that you cannot trim anymore than 1/3, or it will die, just wanted to pass this along. Barbra,

Barbra thank you. Did not know that. All I know is that I want to plant some in the front so the deer will smell it and might not eat on the shrubs anymore.
