I have seen them get that large before, however, not outside. A few years back, I was in Victoria, BC, at the Butterfly Gardens. A large series of greenhouses with all sorts of tropical goodies. They had several Brugs there that were the size of trees. I was ready to move in! hehe

The brug is a "Frosty Pink", the same one i've had. I just moved it to it's current spot because it was taking over some of my dwarf citrus (that sucker was HEAVY!!!! I had to lug it all by myself for about 200 feet!) . I received it as a pencil sized cutting in the summer of 2006. I planted it outside, then in January of 2007, we had a freeze and the brug froze to the ground, only to come back with a vengance as soon as temperatures began to warm up. So what you see here is two years' growth (Spring 07 - Spring 09).

Knotz, what sunset zone are you in? I'm curious since there are some really mild spots in the PNW where you could probably grow a brug in the ground as a returning perrenial for a number of years.

Mary Jane, the hardenbergia is an absolute winner. It blooms in late winter along with the pink jasmines, which is when color is always needed. I really like to foliage. It reminds me of eucalyptus leaves. Here's a close-up of the flower spikes.

Rigo, I remember a conversation about pachypodiums that we had not too long ago. Here's a picture of mine (well the trunk of it). It's dormant now. Unfortunately, i didn't cut back on water early enough, so it was actively growing when it got hit by frost, turning the growing tip to mush. I had to cut back about an inch or so to prevent the rot from moving down the trunk. I learned my lesson, next year, i'll cut back on water earlier to encourage it to go dormant. (The pachypodium is to the right, notice the clean cut top)

About the succulent rampage i've gone on, i was inspired by the book "Designing with Succulents" whose author skips my mind at the moment. It's got so many ideas and pictures that make your mind fly. lol

There was a brug about 20 miles from where I lived way out in the country I used to drool over every year and it was big as the house. It was zone 8 too but maybe B. I never knew what it was until right before I moved and never found one until last year when I discovered you fine friends while looking for info on how to care for it. Had I known they grew so fast from cuttings I would have asked the people for one. I believe now it might have been a Charles Grimaldi.

Yea I remember that conversation we had a while back,saw your post over on the cactus forum about the damage done to your pachy.You did a real good job with the cut and looks like it has healed over really well.Mine is still asleep in the garage right now and should be waking up here pretty soon.I'll post some pics for you when I move it back outside okay.

haha Chena, the shipping would be a ton! lol. I have read that it is super easy from seed and that it is also super easy from cuttings. Tell you what, if it makes seeds, i will send some your way. Otherwise, i'll keep you in mind for whenever i prune it, and i'll try to root some cuttings. If you would like instant gratification, there are some mail order nurseries that may carry them. It is an Australian native vine, and like many Aussi natives, it does really well in California, so look for nurseries that market to CA or specifically Aussie natives. Here's a list of several CA oriented nurseries that may carry it. It's worth a look. All of them are very reputable. Daniella and Christy, the same offer goes to you.

Daniella, it was warm that day. only that day! lol. We've been getting a series of Alaskan Gulf storm systems, and as you may guess, temperatures aren't getting to warm! haha.

Thanks Josh gonna try to find one but if I don't I'll take you up on it. Looks like there are a couple different ones some hardier than others. Do you know what yours is? I have a thunbergia vine that I sure hope comes back in the spring. It has similar coloring. I meant to take cuttings but when the cold front hit so early and I was scrambling to get the brugs in I forgot and it died back to the ground.
