Monarch caterpillar chrysalis problem

We moved half our cats into a larger cage-it's the hamper sized one. Put a milkweed plant in. Left 5 cats in the smaller cage since they were starting to go into J's and today they are all nice and green. There were 2 more in there, but they didn't develop-both had cats that had crawled over and bothered them. Today in the larger cage, there are two chrysalis and one that was starting to form. About half way through a cat meandered up there and started to crawl on it. It looked like it bit it, because the chrysalis started to drip liquid and it's not forming any longer. That cat would not leave it alone.

So, are the cats attracted to the newly forming chrysalis? I couldn't find anything online about it. Has anyone had this problem with Monarchs or other caterpillars?
