Yea!! Glad everyone had a great christmas! Karen, your tank is very nice! Do you have CO2 on your tank? Hint- If you grow golden creeping jenny in your garden, you can pull a few strands of it and plant it in your aquarium, it grows submerged too! Just needs bright light. It has done well in mine, I like the bright yellow color against my green plants. I would post a pic of my tank, but its a bow front, and the pics never turn out that great. Wow, it must be nice to still have 70 degree days this time a year! im jealous. Perfect digging weather! on the other hand if it was warm here all year long, id be even broker, and have less grass, due to too many orders of DL's! lol! well I guess I better start taking all the empty toy boxes out, my house is carpeted with them, and the toys too. Hey dixieboy, I hope everyone is ok.I didn't know y'all got hit so bad by Irene.I knew it came up the east coast but that's about it.I didn't hear what places got hit and what places didn't. The S.brazoria looks like I remember.Did it suffer much damage?How are your big Butia palms doing?What about the rest of them,how are they?I hope none of them got to much damage.You have such a beautiful yard,and I know it takes years for most palms to get as big as yours.I also know what it's like to lose a palm you've had for years. We have been lucky so far this year.It's been warmer than normal and drier than normal.We have had a couple severe thunderstorms,but for the most part they have gone north or south of Douglasville. Well,once again I hope everyone made it through Irene ok.You can replace plants,but you cant replace a life. Sincerely,Randy

Hi Cory unfortunately I have to go to work tomorrow ouch . Cory the Minneola's are amazing I cannot believe that they taste so good grown this far north I highly recommend them to northern Citrus growers . Cory I think there are growers that sell variegated Minneola's that would be cool . Cory another two weeks and the Minneola's will be finished there was one on the tree that was starting to dry out it was extremely puffy . I find the larger fruit's taste like a very sweet navel and the smaller ones have a very slight tartness to them so good . Cory squeeze your fruit's if they feel full of juice then they are most likely ready . Your Dekapon's might be ready you might want to try one just don't give me heck if not lol. I have key lime fruits to I might go and pick one for the seeds. Glad you enjoyed your Xie-Shan it's an awesome feeling when you know it came out of your own garden. Today it happened, H. papilio opened it's flowers, both of them. It is truly unique in every way.

The flowers aren't that big but the shape and coloring are fascinating. The size might still improve in years to come. - Collected pollen from it already but won't have high hopes of success... Going to give it a go though, for sure! :D

Yes, these flowers give so much joy, and specially now when there's a lot of snow and it's freezing outside.

Am I just imagining or does my papilio have more prominent whitish marks in the middle than usual? Is this 'Papilio Improved'? If it is, is it a good thing or a bad thing? I believe it's bad; how can you improve anything so special as a species.

As Dan stated above, the hippeastrums warm the heart with their vibrant colors and it's really appreciated at the moment when colors are otherwise missing from the world. Just now it is black and gray with shades of brown against the whiteness of snow.

We've lucked out so far this year, we are near enough to the coast so that we usually get rain just a little bit warmer..thank goodness! Lovely to enjoy the snow in someone else's yard!! Very pretty! I hope you feed the birds!!

Those are amazing photos! What a background to set the colors of the hippeastrum against - must make their colors even more striking.

Well, the snow is melting right now and the roads are very slippery at the moment...

J, thanks! I've needed to find a way to photograph inside the house during these winter months. My favourite spot would be in one of the upstairs rooms but it's not available at the moment, it's under construction so to speak, for how long no one knows, not even hubby...
The plants are simply placed against a white wall, but the light has to be good, otherwise it won't work, at least not for me.
