Neo Maya

I noticed some time ago that my one Neo Maya is getting some diffirent markings than I am used to. Is this some sort of temperature banding? As you can see the pattern would have been a perfect circle some time ago when the leaves were shorter. I did not know that Maya is affected by temperature, or could it have been some bird droppings that fell into the cup and caused a 'fertilised' ring at the level of the water?

Almost any marmorated Neo can develop some color breaks in cool weather, Japie. Some just do it more regularly than others. Maya is more faintly marmorated than its sibling, Lois Bullis, which can get quite banded. The red lineations are the most prominent feature, but you can see the green spotting there too.

Very nice Stephania, I picked mine sooner about the time they were turning a dark brown. Since it was my first cross, I was afraid I would miss the grand opening and lose the seeds. Do have a name for the last photo. Mr. Odean. Also have another name for the big spiney. Puya berteroniana. Bob thought it was Puya alpestris and the pictures do look the same, but the guy I bought it from says it's berteroniana. From the photos I've pulled up it could go either way. Stephania....hope you can break the tie!

You're not the only one, Gonzer. Hatsumi (see other thread) uses them too, but she's VERY particular which kind she uses. Only bamboo will do, as the pine ones rot too quickly. She told us there's one particular Vietnamese restaurant she goes to, not because of the food, but because they have the best chopsticks!

That's a very good news Philofan, because at least he tried to find spiney for me LOL.. For months, he just got only Anthuriums back to Thailand. This aroid seem to be "fashion" here and everybody got crazy with them. I think becasue they quite popular in Indonesia and those people keep on coming to get here. You know, even my little An. radicans has been asked for sell 100 USD$ !

HDD, I'm glad to hear that Hohenbergia Correia-araujoi flops for you - it did look a lot more upright on the sales table:) Von, Hannibal is a great plant if you can find one in good condition I don't think you will be disappointed, I'm told that Ralph Davis goes full red if grown hard, it appears to be a good pupper with my new plants sprouting 3 pups.
