I think you are doing a great job with your baby seedlings. I have not had the same luck with mine, I think they are toast. :0( But hey I gave it a try and trust me I will try it again.

Those look ver good to me but I have no basis to judge, lol. My first seedlings are only a few weeks old and are just starting to get the true leaves. But I would be happy if mine ended up looking like yours in a few more weeks.

Holy Sheep sh!t Barry! They look great! Are you serious..only 6 weeks?? What are you feeding them, steroids?
I am about to do my first 2 brug seeds..I can only hope they look half as good as yours in 6 weeks.

Hey Marian I have no doublle pinks, I was either scammed (filthyrich10), they didn't root or died. so, no dbls. unless these seedlings turn out to be..........

And yours look better than mine- I have a problem with gnats, drat it!!!!

I just potted mine for the last time in 5" square x 6" deep pots- here they'll stay til they go outside in a month or so (with protection against a few pesky frosts, when they need it!) The little guys are being give full strength fertilizer now! Just the seedlings, not the brug cuttings or the plants!!!

Hi Barry,

Congrats, you are doing great with your seedlings! And yes, it is time to repot those babies. I would suggest a 6 inch pot, but if you don't have that, at least a 4 inch pot. Then to no more than a gallon pot before you take them out for the summer.

Being in zone 6 as myself, I assume that you will be growing them in pots? After you get them harden off, I would put them into at least a five gallon pot. In my experience, if the plant, be it a seedling or a rooted cutting, is growing well and the weather conditions are favorable, you can pot them up to a large growing container with no problems. Just have to make sure that your growing medium is well draining though.

Please, no one think that I was contradicting Karma's advise, and think what Karma advised as wrong.

All of us gardeners do things differently. Why, because what works for you, may not work for me. And what works for me, may not work for you. We give advise from our own growing experiences, our own trials and errors.

In my opinion, either method of handling your seedlings would be just fine.

Sorry Karma, I did not mean to contradict your advise. :-(

lol karma.. thanks........ but they are in 4 cell packs, 2" x 2" each cell I am sure if you know that, you'd say repot to 5 or 6 inchers, which is what I will do.

Look at the penny and you'll get an idea just how big these are ;)

Your going to plant all 50 in the ground! WOW, your place is going to look really cool when they start to bloom. Please post some pics when you get them planted or when they start to bloom. :0)

oxmyx thank you for posting these pics! Your babies look spectacular! It makes me want to start from seed! :) I am a newbie to brugs and already I am feeling the itch for more!! I think for the sake of space I will stick with the cuttings I got going now... just for a little while. He he. :)

wellll ....... I have haf such disappointing results from just about all my doubles, that I have to revel in at least, some success. These guys (about 25) will probably be all whites, but oh well..........

No good double, althought I tried all winter to get some...
The ones I have that are growing look pitiful , I really really dont get it. All the singles look great, even after the attack of the Broa Mites!

BTW I transplanted my seedlings today and they look worse than they did. Little skinny stems holding up too many leaves. Where do I get the steroids like you used. (grin)

Marian, were you referring to the tags of my seedlings? crosses of any double don't meen you get that from the progeny.

Steroids?.. just good watering practices. astute attention to their needs and some miracle grow.

It's okay David! I love ya back but these are babies and they, I'm sure are not root bound. To bump them up into a bigger pot at this point may not be wise. Barry take half and do what David advised and leave the other half. See which ones do the best? Love ya ((((David))) but let him do the test and see. I don't see roots or a sign of it being root bound?

Barry even if the first flush is white the next may be different. Don't make a final determination until the second or third flush during the summer months.

karma you have to be joking, do you see the size of these plants in a 2 x 2 container!!! need water each day!! time to transplant - common sense gardening! yiukes!!!

oxmyx, nope not joking! Sometimes folks rush to bump up and find that they stress will kill as they rush to a bigger pot. Sometimes bigger isn't better and they are not as root bound as they appear. I would rather be safe on the new babies than sorry down the road but you asked for our opinion and as gardeners you will find we all are different. Why rush? They look really happy.

well, Sorry Karma, I disagree. 2 inch pots that don't get enough water in one soaking each day are ready to be transplanted, especially when they are crowding each other out, in there 4 packs. Just a common sense approach.

When transplanting, I soak the plant, THEN repot it in well moistened soil, and dont water again until the roots inhabit the new soil, and it has dried. It has worked extremely well for me, for over 25 years... I don't see that Brugs, which have vigorous root systems, are so different a plant, that they need to be treated differently.

Look.. I found a computer..LOL Da*n cold in KS... I would leave them alone..You are just having a Spring ATTACK!!!! Why rush it? You have to wait HOW long before you can really put them outside..????? From mine that are growing they are not mature enough to be rootbound and leaving them as is won't hurt and bumping a pot size won't help..So why bother just takes up more space...
They do look GREAT.. You have done a wonderful job I can't wait to see what ya get...

lol chena it is at least 2 to 2 1/2 months till it is warm enough to plant! no way they stay in 2" container!!

look great? in 2 weeks at the present growth rate, they will be turning all sorts of yellow and dying in an itsy bitsy 2 inch container thts a cube 2"x2"x2"!!! I am going full bore and you will see giant trees from these in full bloom by mid summer. I have my ways..

oxmyx, secret is out and can be found in another post. You have 2 1/2 months before you can sent them out and to rush this process is well not a good thing. These are baby seedlings!! I remember the mites and I sure hope you are checking them daily? But again I'm not an expert am I?
