WOW! That is increadible. Beautiful flower and that trunk is just fenominal. You know that baby is well feed. Do you keen your brugs in the greenhouse all year long or do you take them outside in summer? Great pictures, thanks for posting them.

Holey Molely!!! That's some trunk on that Brug. How old is the plant and what are you feeding it? Do certain Brugs grow exceptionally bigger than others? As a beginner beginner, I'm amazed at some of the differences in these wonderful and sometimes zany plants lol. Thanks for sharing the pix, and tell us more about this speciman. Gloria

Your brugs look good. The pods probably have a ways to go before they are ripe. The pods will begin to discolor and soften when the seeds are ripe. I wait until it takes just a very slight tug to detach the pod from the stem. I'll let it sit somewhere warm and dry for a day or two after I pick it before I open it. The pod might even be kind of squishy and nasty when ripe. It doesn't dry out like most ripe seed pods, at least not that I've seen.

I made the mistake of not acclimating my brugs to the sun when I put them out and all my leaves burned. I stripped everything off and you can see the difference in the new growth compared to what had grown while they were inside. Most plants will experience some amount of stress when moved outside from a house or greenhouse. Buds will be the first thing to drop. Karyn

Slow Year for Brug Blooms

a little slower than usual. My Peaches and Cream has not bloomed yet, nor has my double white (which has an amazing fragrance). The Frosty(s) have put on a good show several times, and some new un-named yellow ones have bloomed well. Last night I had 25 flowers open for me and permeate the neighbourhood. Even one of the ones that I was sure was dead, came up from the root and I notice that there are buds on her. It has been a terrible year for mite though, and I fear the treatment has had a negative effect on the plants. I'm already thinking about a new spot to plant them next year, and getting rid of some of the less fragrant/more pest attractive brugs. My single whites are strong magnets for mites. On second thought, perhaps I should keep a couple just to serve as sacrificial magnets so the mites stay away from the others. Thoughts???

Hi Edna. Something's screwed up with my computer or camera. My camera is fairly new. I think it's the computer. DH installed a new anti-virus program and I've been having issues ever since. Everything looks like it's loading fine but when I go to view what has uploaded there's nothing in my windows where the pics are stored. DH is going to have to take a look at it. It's pissing me off. The foliage looks like Maya, not really heavily variegated (see pic in OP) and the bloom ended up being a light pink. There's multiple stems coming from below the soil and the ones that have any foliage left are variegated. I know for a fact that I haven't bought or traded for any variegated doubles so I'm confused as to what's going on. You are probably the only one I would even get a plant like that from. lol Eloise I've found a few nice brugs and other plants in the junk pile. I'm waiting for another double to color up so I can figure out what it might be. I'd even tossed a Snowbank into the pile.

Thanks,That Large Brug is about 4 years old.It's now about 9 1/2 feet tall.The blooms are now yellow-but in the middle of the summer are an orange color-and very,very fragrant!I dig it up every fall,and Nurse it along in the greenhouse all winter.I then plant it out after frost.I really had to cut it back last fall just to fit it into the greenhouse-you should have seen the pile of cuttings and leaves-almost a truck load!!!During the summer,it gets alot of water soluble fetilizer about every 10 days-and I usually get at least 5 or more really good flushes of 50 or more flowers at at time.Pretty impressive.Yes,some brugs definitly get taller than others.Some brugs like my mistic morning stay short as squat,while others can get 9 feet in a season.

That must be some job digging that up. Thats real dedication. I live in N.Calif and this year alot of mine froze for the first time.

Shocking size to me. What is the name of this brug?

Please give me the name of some other brugs that are at the same time large and prolific.

Well,there are 2 ways to grow a brug that big-Live in a frostfree zone....LOL,yep I got zone envy..OR,take the largest stem,and cut it off at ground level.Then Pot it up just before frost,and keep in a greenhouse for the winter.This one I've done this for 3 or 4 years,and the diameter gets bigger every summer!

praytell, what did you do with the cuttings, if I may be so bold as to ask? Would/could you perhaps send some of the cuttings of this beauty for postage? I, too, am in the throes of cold and winter and haul my "cold sensitive" babies in and out each year but to me it's worth it!

Oh,unfortunatly,they are long gone...to the burn pile.I Had so many cuttings,I wind up tossing so many.Never mind the 7 or 8 brug brug varieties that I just was not impressed with-they too went to the burn pile.But-spring is just around the corner,and I've got so many new varieties this year-can't hardly wait to see them grow-many many new doubles-and even a culebra.That one looks so weird,with the thin leaves forming.Can't wait to see that one get huge this season.

trigger_m, thanks for the lovely fix. I hear ya on the size of trunk, it boggles the mind! Our 10 year old one in the back of the greenhouse will be moved out soon! Don't ya just love those huge trunked ones? You will love the Culebra, it's a slow grower, plus remember they hate having their roots disturbed. Can't wait to see more photos!
