Karen - You said you "stuck it back outside to see if it would get pollinated"... did you mean you let nature take its course? Or did you hand pollinate, and then put the plant back outside?

I've got many seed pods ripening on several different varieties... some are selfs, and others are crosses... This is my first year collecting and breeding these bulbs, and I'm having a ton of fun, and learning a lot!

As far as planting your seeds, there are different methods, and different mediums to plant in... I'm not an expert on seed germination by a long shot, so I'll let some of the resident experts field your questions...

I always make plans to try my hand at pollinating but never quite get around to it. So far nature has been kind, though, so I often just leave things outside. Sometimes I think I must have a particular insect pollinator specific to late fall, because for the last two years I've had seed on Griffinia as well. Only with the last few outdoor blooms of the fall though. At first I thought it was cross pollination between Griffinia species, but this year I got seeds when only one species was in bloom.

The reticulatum striatifolium seed are unlike other amaryllids I've seen, so hopefully someone can help me out. It was very pretty when the capsule opened, orange on the inside with black seeds, and the color combination reminded me of a Korean sweetheart tree (Euscaphis).

They sound like pretty seed pods... you're very lucky to have decent pollination from Mother Nature... I, personally, like a more controlled breeding program... plus, I'm way up north in zone 5, so I don't have the luxury of keeping my plants outdoors... I sure wish I were in zone 8 or 9, or even 10! It's cold out! Too cold for me, anyway!
