Help! Amaryllis rescued from Grandma... Now what?

Hey All!

I gave this Amaryllis to my grandmother last year and it grew leaves but did not flower. She let it go dormant and dry out for the remainder of the year until about a month ago when it started growing again. I watered it well and it started growing leaves again. I had to be away and when I returned, this is how I found it: (hope this pic works)

When I asked her if she watered it too much or too little she just shruged her shoulders and said she didn't know. I think she didn't want me to be mad at her (like I could get mad at my 81 year old grandma...) She is so funny sometimes! I told her I would take it and fix it and bring her a new one.

Does anyone know what could have happened to this poor thing? The soil was very moist and the bulb is very firm. It is growing in the coco stuff that they sell them with at the grocery store. It seems to be drying up and going dormant now. Any ideas? I would appreciate any guidance you could offer!

Thanks,

Frank
