I only get Tillandsia plants from sellers with at least a 98% good response. I did have some arrive a week late than they should of but I think the post office lost them for a while. They came with a paper with all the names and descriptions as to which was which. I did see some posts about the green flowered one. Also, one seller did have some spanish moss that they said was a thinner, greener mexican form. I didn't get it but is there a thinner, greener mexican form or is this a variation of the fake green flowering one? The prices sure are high for many of the Tillandsias on eBay (shipping wise). Could three airplants really cost $6 to $9 to ship them? I would get them local but there really isn't any Tillandsia selling company in north central florida. Another question I have: If they collected it secretly from the wild, wouldn't the buyer have a good chance of getting those things called red bugs (tiny red bugs that burrow into people's skin and itch) in their skin?

Bob, that particular day was rough! I've had a bunch of them! On that day...I had ordered a lawn service to come spray my yard for fleas, over a month ago...well.... I got a bill in the mail...fraudulant of course! No one showed up to spray my lawn...but I got the bill ...complete with the service techs name and a time of 4p.m on 3-30-06 ....well......when I called the office...each and every person I spoke to said......"we have your voice on audio,where you requested the service!" well.....by the end of the day...the employee finaly admitted.......he lied and didn't come to my house and signed the invoice and sent it into the office! I guess he didn't know I was a new customer...and figured..what the hey.........on less spray! Grrr it was a day from H@#$ and I have since found out that everyone in the US has complaints with them ! That was my day! I'm still waiting for a letter of formal termination of contract! they got my bill to me in 3 days!...lets see if I get the letter !....They should have hand delivered it ! I'm only around the corner! Peggy

Oh and the real kicker was....we had decided way back on the first day of the estimate.......THEY couldn't spray because I have birds in the back yard! Peggy

Hi Alexis,here's some reliable info for you,hope it helps.
All of your plants shown are listed as Xeric,except the brachycaulos,which is sub-mesic.
'xeric',is a dry growing species,while 'mesic' is a moist growing species. 'Sub',means 'less than'.IE: sub-mesic would be 'less than moist'conditions. Another source list the tenuifolia and juncea as SX,sub-xeric. And the bulbosa and stricta as SM,sub-mesic,altho listed as xeric by the first source. So you could say that the brachycaulos,bulbosa,and stricta would be better choices together in a more moist atmosphere,while the others are better in a dry atmosphere. Indoor Tills may need submersion in water for a few hours when they looked stressed,when the leaves tend to curl in from the edges.A good time to add a splash of fertilizer for them too. Also,Tropiflora in Sarasota has a huge inventoty of Till. (see www.tropiflora.com). One clever idea a friend had was to buy a small 2" fan motor,the kind used in computers,from Radio Shack. A pair of small wires,and a drycell flashlight battery,and you have great air movement,which the Tills really need to stay healthy indoors. Regards,Bob

Bob, his reply (cleaned up) stated that if I was such a genius, why couldn't I figure out why his plants were rare. I also stated to this person (mantisbee) that their spelling was atrocious and he should proof-read his sales pitch. He was also informed that as far as I'm aware, T. usneoides has only one hybrid cross, that with T. mallemontii. There ARE a couple of very good, reliable Tillandsia sellers on E-bay that I have no problems dealing with. It just burns me to see some hack trying to rip folks off like that.

Sorry I freaked out ! I just can't stand to be ripped off...and then falsely accused! I tried to be helpful to these people..I mentioned granules etc. they wanted to be rude and....lie? I know they had a bad day too...they did no follow up,didn't remove my name from the computer, and then...their employee lied! I still don't know exactly what happened...probably never will! I wonder how many people get ripped off by lawn service companies?....I'll try to banish the thought and move on with my life.....and think about plants and..........

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but I just have to ask it...I am NOT trying to poke fun here or play Devil's Advocate believe me....

But, as I live in the Deep South and there is Spanish Moss dripping off of practically every tree in my yard, and my neighbors yard, and everyone ELSE'S yard, why in the world would anyone actually want to BUY it?

I can understand someone might want it for stuffing into baskets as a potting media (the cleaned, sterile kind) but to actually try to GROW? As a cultivated PLANT?

I guess I could be getting rich as we speak. Let me go get my earth mover and round up about 2 tons of Spanish Moss...let's see, how much can I charge for it? After all, its free, its on the ground and dangling from the trees for the taking, NO OVERHEAD!!!!

LOL..Are you ready for this? My husband just mentioned the spanish moss a couple of days ago. We are from the other coast of Fl, and like you say...there was moss in just about everyone's tree! We have no spanish moss in the trees on this coast...and it seems strange at times? We have seen a couple of pieces placed on a tree here and there..imported from the center of the state?LOL Some people like or miss the stuff...it's old Florida..mysterious...tinsel like..graceful and delicate looking? LOL Heck if I know! I do miss it sometimes though... I mentioned the red bugs to my husband...LOL... and he said oh yeah... then I said WOW..it would be neat to have some in our tree..LOL Something about that spanish moss... Peggy

Gotta jump in here. Yes, yes, yes BEWARE of the bugs in the Spanish moss. When I moved to Louisiana from Tennessee I had no idea that there were bugs in it. A friend wanted me to send her some so I gathered a bunch of it up, draping it over my arm as I walked around the yard. Big, big mistake! They itch like nothing you've ever had.

gonzer, aren't all forms of T. usneoides green-flowered?

I've got a couple of different forms, and I have a friend who has about half a dozen (thicker, thinner, curlier etc.) but the only flowers I've ever seen on them are green.

It's what I thought also Lisa until Bihai sent me the yellow form last year. It would be nice to find a definitive work detailing the different varities like you (and I) have. I once found the ultra-fine form with a tag calling it "Silver Ghost".
