What are your hard ones to grow....

I was wondering if any of you have a hard time rooting some cuttings? Some seem so difficult to root or when they do root they are slow growers. Mine in Wi weather (gh) are

Kylies pink

Misty morning

They are just taking forever it seems. I hope they come in by roots. lol Hey the wretched mess I got from april is doing great..One of my favs but you all know that already. LOL. Do you have any that are difficult?

Monika took forever ..Most this time of yr seem to take forever...LOL.. I would prefer to root cuttings come Spring or Summer you can just plunk them in the ground and they take off...Haven't done many cuttings this yr...Then again they would be DH's cuttings at this point...LOL I am headed OOT again... ;O/

Hi Kylie I have to look that one up. I havent heard of it. I cant wait till summer. When they are blooming! My neighbor Barb (same name) came over last summer when we were not home. She brought over her family from florida to show the new plant growing in the neighborhood. Their comment was "They grow like weeds were we live." Darn. LOL

I am glad to know that. Some seem so hard to get going. I wonder if they like Milwaukee's miller lite for fertilazation ...LOL OT seems like fun while we wait patiently....Come on summer....

It's been a while since I reported on Alocasia robusta, so I'm going to risk jinxing my luck and tell everyone what I've been doing with it. I hypothesized that the A. robusta must have a symbiotic relationship with some fungus or bacterium, and that is what keeps it from going extinct in the wild. To test this, I looked for any biological products on the market that would offer this kind of protection. Currently, I am trying something called PlantShield (a fungus) and Companion (a bacterium). I've also used K-Phite, which is a systemic fungicide. So far, my A. robustas are hanging in there, and have stayed alive through a cool winter and now into the south Florida spring. When I first got A. robustas from Malesiana, they grey quite rapidly and I thought I'd have a problem with space, but they also died out quite rapidly too, just as has been reported by Planty and others. If my tests prove conclusive, those of us who really want to grow A. robusta may be able to, finally. If not, you'll all have to wait for my hybrid of A. odora and A. robusta, tentatively called A. x "robodora"! Meanwhile, I have gotten a lot of seedlings growing from crossing A. Hi! I have two deer Christmas lawn decorations (white thick wire frames that used to have white Christmas lights which all blew) that I'm trying to recycle in my garden room which is part shade - in late summer, it's mostly shade. One deer is a buck (antlers) standing upright; the other a grazing doe - each deer is about 3-31/2 feet tall and maybe 3 feet long. I was thinking of planting Clematis to cover the deer frames in summer. Is Clematis a good choice - is it too big? Can I manage the plants size without harming its flowering power? Do I need more sun? I'm looking for white or light pink - does anyone have any recommendations? If I don't have enough sun for Clematis, can anyone recommend a flowering vine that does well in part shade/shaade in Z6? Thanks - any feedback is appreciated.

Natal~ Creole varieties of garlic are more suited to warmer climates aren't they, I wouldn't mind trying one although I don't know how well they'd grow up here. That's quite a nice selection of tomatoes you grow, I just grow Celebrity, haven't found an heirloom, open pollinated, determinate variety to take it's place yet. I'm slowly switching over to all heirloom varieties so I can keep my own seed. Christine~ Cherokee Purple tomatoes sound yummy, DH thinks tomatoes don't taste like tomatoes unless they're red LOL but, if I find the seed I just might try a plant. Treelover~ I'm going to plant some lettuce today, I save seed from a Croatian lettuce given to me some years back, it is now our favorite lettuce, it will germinate, grow a smidge sit throughout the winter and produce beautiful lettuce for us in march, replant more seed to come a little later. I grew white spanish onions from seed one year, they were so mild and almost sweet, yummy. Nancy~ If you don't find a source for different garlics besides Salt Spring Seeds I found another mail order source in BC that has an extensive list of garlic varieties. Glenda~ Darn varmints, I was waiting for a report on how good you montreal melon tasted, they're supposed to be sooooo good. I think I'd be sitting guard with a shot gun, what a disappointment :o(. Ha ha! When I first saw the post-it note idea it didn't seem especially helpful. Then it came time to empty my kitchen, a daunting and discombobulating process. After checking and rechecking the same cupboard for about the tenth time, I remembered the post-it notes, which suddenly sounded genius! Thank you all for your words of encouragement! I lucked out on one (had 3 cuttings)..LOL Here is the thing.. A friend sent me Masqurade for one of the cuttings (rooted) so more than likely I will be sending it to her it already has a Y..I know she will send some back somewhere down the road...I am very Happy with what I have an very excited about the seed I have started and NEED to start...LOL

Barb, too funny! I've had problems rooting a few, but can't remember which ones. The Shredded White was hard for me to root and out of several cuttings, only one rooted!

Oh, my god I'm cackling like an old crow. You are too funny. I have either misti or mysic morning the writing was faded on the tag and it took like 6 months to root but once it did it took off. I was pulling it out of the pot to throw it away and it had a teeny little root (kind of like one of ex's, lol) so I put it back in the pot. I couldn't believe it was alive after all that time with no growth.

OMG...I almost had heart failure I laughed so hard Barb. You are a hoot.

I found Kyle's Pink, Charles Grimaldi and Valley Sunshine to take foooorrreeever to root. Hopefully, everything will do well once they are either repotted or planted in the ground this spring.

Cypress Mother *#&%^-in Gardens, I've had for over 1 year and has constant rabid red spider mites, very slow growth and never even a bud. I WILL make that thing bloom, but out of spite!

Hi Everyone I was afraid to come back here today and read what I posted. LOL Sober today..Slight hangover. Nothing that moving around doing housework wont take care of. Bri Cypress gardens is my hardest one too. If it doesnt do something quick I am tossing it.
