Mite really do make you itch?

ohh techno youre too funny! No oxmyx the mites can't hurt you. But this reminds me of when I was a nursing student and did a clinical in a school and saw my first case of head lice! OMG there were lice on lice on lice and I was certain I had them too after seeing that. I told my precepter after the poor kid went home,..."you check me and I'll check you!!" ROTFL!!!! I itched for weeks after that! Never did get lice but...funny how your mind plays tricks on you.

SJN...I didn't know you were a nurse too. I did the same thing in nursing school... LOL... I think we all did. I had one patient that had head lice, crabs, and big ticks (like a dog has).........OMG, I itched and clawed till I couldn't stand it. Talk about nasty. She was so dirty, we had to slather her in vaseline and leave it on for a whole day, then scraped it off. My lord, what a mess...I'll shut up, I am making myself sick...thanks for the reminder SJN...LOL

yes edna I am unfortunately in that group LOL! Got my BSN in 1996. OMG! I wasn't gonna say anything about seeing crab cases and other nasties.. but yes, I know exactly what you are talking about rotflmao!!

I think we shoulda told oxmyx and dweeb that mites are contagious and wait awhile and see what happened LOL!

You guys are so funny. I graduated from a diploma school of Nursing in 87 and I am now going to school for my BSN. And I have shaved a mans head because he had so many lice!!! Lice and respirators just dont mix!!

You ever notice how many more patients will experience a "side effect" if you tell them about the possibilities beforehand? I used to see that all the time, especially with iodinated contrast media. I don't know if I've ever seen a case of lice but I've seen my share of maggots in open wounds and these were not medical grade intentionally introduced critters, Blech!

Yes I am still itching and it got worse after I read this, lol. If I even think about what lice look like my head itches and I have never had them but in my nursing years treated many cases. I was running around last night with the raid yelling I found them! They are eating my plants! I have to kill them! My husband thought I was nuts but that is most days anyhow, lol.

I just got new pillows!! Every new year's, so I remember!! Too gross, you guys are making my skin crawl!!

Ohhh bed mites, dust mites.. hey dweeb ya listening to that?? Geez I've had the same down pillow for years and you guys are making me think I'm gonna throw it into the dryer on hot for about an hour LOL!!

Gawd, speaking of maggots...here's something gross! One time our neighbor's dog had puppies and they were on their outdoor patio. The mother dog must not have cleaned off the babies real well, and flies had laid eggs on them.. OMG! those poor puppies had maggots on them eating into them, the dumb old lady hadn't even noticed and my daughter was over there and came back and was like MOM!! so we went over there and washed every puppy with baby shampoo and washed off all those maggots. She was gonna dip them in tick dip!!
One other time we found some kittens that people had dumped off and they were completely covered with fleas..they still had their eyes partially shut so no flea stuff cuz they were to young..the vet said to use dish soap and do you know that stuff works great! You still have to comb out the eggs tho.

I have a kid with allergies. Before we had him tested, I thought I would have to get rid of him if he was allergic to the animals. I had them longer & they were better behaved (never did teach the kids to heel). He turned out to be allergic to dust & mold & I thought he would have to go anyway. We got rid of a houseful of wall to wall carpeting, curtains, stuffed animals & most of the furniture. He was 6. He is 20 now. Even after 3 1/2 years of allergy shots that really helped, I still replace pillows every year & wash them & ALL the bedclothes (everybody's)& curtains every week.

Head lice? With 8 kids, I didn't stand a chance. I thought I was going to wash myself to death. At the beginning of very school year they send home a paper about it, I start itching as soon as I see what it is. Other lice are species specific, meaning if they get on something not appetizing to their particular species, they just crawl off. This is true for dog, bird, & people lice. They just don't stay. I worked for a vet & my neighbor turned me into the health dept for giving her kid head lice which she said came from our single pet chicken. Boy was she mad when she found that they didn't come from me. She also turned me into them for breeding lyme disease in my pool (in the winter). Yeah right, we raise mosquitoes for fun & profit. LOL We were so glad when they moved.

I wonder if I could put a flea collar on each plant.

There's also the kissing bug (a protazoan parasite -not a mite)which causes trypanosomiasis/chugas disease--soooo interesting to know they like to do this while you are sleeping (Hehe)!

My allergist just KNEW I was allergic to my 4 dogs or cat. I ended up being allergic to mold and trees!!! I just had a plumbing accident and will be redoing floors, I am thinking about tile in all the living areas and carpet in the bedrooms only. House resale factor worries me though, but I think I am going to do it anyway and if I ever move I can say it is more allergy friendly!!

I thought I did today too..lil white things on one of the leaves..but I think it may have been perlite dust? I went to smush em and they were hard. With how I have been spraying and misting, and wiping, I dont see how anything can be on there. Still lookin for lil green wormies..dang it my skin is crawling..why did I read this? Lol, I have had the same feather pillow for years. No way can I get rid of it. I can't sleep without it. I put it in the dryer with tennis balls once a week and hope it kills something. Has anyone ever tried dog dip for mites on the brugs I wonder?

F4F, now that reminds me of something, there is a product that contains a flea insecticide that is for pests on trees. I think it is Merit. I read a good thread about that on the FL forum when I was having leaf miner probs with my citrus. You gotta scroll down a ways and look at what GC Mastiffs wrote to understand it all. Not sure if it could be used on brugs tho.

Linda, don't worry your neighbor could never have gotten you for Lyme Disease via mosquitos in your pool because they don't spread it, ticks do LOL! I have had some really nightmarish neighbors too- they can be a real PIA! :)

Mechanical methods like AS, Oils, take evolution to overcome. If the grew bigger they would become prey for a normal insect eater. Their size is their only advantage. It also makes them targets for the smother system. Save those pesticides for the last resort. 99% of the pesticides have no effect on mites anyway. Only the newer very expensive ones like Avid and Forbid work right now. This could change in the very near future.
