Okay, I just had to share this one. Chelsea and I were outside when I was releasing some Monarchs. I swear...Tifanny must have sent her spirit down to let Cheli know that butterflies are to be treated gently. Cheli and this little boy hung out together for quite some time. He did not want to leave her! In fact, he climbed up onto her head and hung out while she played outside for awhile. I took him off and placed him on a plant but he flew BACK to Chelsea! Go figure...

Oh my gosh, that is one of the cutest pictures I've ever seen, Sherry! Chelsea is such a precious little doll! I can see that she's going to have lots of butterfly friends! She is so sweet for just sitting there and not trying to do anything to the Monarch! Give her a big hug for me and say it's from an admirer. :)

That is too cute...

I'm so happy to see that Chelsea is doing well and is as gentle to the monarchs as precious Tiff was.

Isn't it great to have a gardening buddy to share your hobby with?

I had a few White's tree frogs as pets several years ago, when they sat all scrunched up like the frogs in the photos, they were as big as the palm of my hand, and I fed them grasshoppers, large crickets and the occasional newborn mouse. I also had Red-eyed tree frogs, in a big vivarium with a little waterfall and live plants, and misted them with water several times a day. They were pretty cool. Karen

Dave, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your growing technique. Some might consider using a cheap plastic 2 to 2 ÃÂ½ gallon container with drainage holes. This might prove to be much better for those located in those areas with longer growing seasons. Kent

Phenixk- Can't believe I came across your post. We are considering using Dorado(now Phildadelpia) Soapstone for a soapstone countertop and were wondering if it was a good choice. There is another company in the area that also sounds good, but as you said, Joe and Andy have been great to talk with so far. I am still trying to decide what to do-soapstone (?) or not, and would love to see a countertop that has been used in someone's home to see if it holds up as well as they say it does. How long have you had yours? Are you pleased with the wear, etc.? Also, I really like the idea of the lighter gray color, but I am not sure if it would stay that way (without oiling it) like they say, and look good. Our other option is to use 12 x 12 retified porcelian tiles. I want a primitive country look since I have a house full of antiques.

Thanks everyone! He totally loves it! It is a doggie bed but has like a cover over the top so they can "burrow" like the do under the blankets as dashies love to burrow under covers....He since he still can't jump on the furniture next to me like they can uses this all the time! Stacy

Thanks! Yesterday I had the large Insectlore pop-up outside as I was transferring Painted Ladies into it with a Lavatera maritima plant (I had one with a Cheeseweed but the PLs didn't seem to care for that plant). Cheli watched me move the PLs from one pop-up to the other and was quite interested in the entire process. The butterflies stayed outside all day (it was a gorgeous day-in the 80s) as I was hoping for some amorous behavior on their part (my Kindergartners are hoping for eggs).

Later in the afternoon I looked over and there was Chelsea, sitting in front of the pop-up. She was intently watching those butterflies flying around. She tried to 'paw' at one so I said, "Chelsea, you have to be gentle! Kisses only!" I watched to see what she'd do. She started LICKING the netting. LOL I bet those PLs wondered, "What the heck?"

Awwwwww! How cute, Sherry! How lucky you are to have her in your life, and the butterflies as well! I am sitting on pins and seeds!

Checked on my seeds today and the Blessed Thistle has sprouted (for the PLs)! Yippee!

That photo is too cute!!! Love the story about Chelsea licking the netting! Too funny!!! That would work wonders on those butterflies that seek out minerals! Some of our local lepidopterists make spitwads and set them on leaves to attract butterflies :o)

Aw, how sweet! I've been away for a while so I hadn't heard about Tdog crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I'm so sorry for your loss. Happily, though, Chelsea does seem to have a bit of tdog's spirit. Incredible picture, and incredible story!

that's really cute....your dog has great eyelashes...I know that sounds silly, but her face is adorable. Are the monarchs going to pass through SoCal again this spring Tdog? I didn't see too many this winter. I need to come vist sometime near their migration spots, I don't think they frequent Eagle Rock lol. Anyway, I am going to start my milkweed soon. Any suggestions for our climate?? I have a bunch of types already, I just haven't grown any sucessfully. I need to do most in containers because my garden real estate is mostly taken up by veggies but I am saving a spot for milkweed that is sunny and I should be able to fit 20-30 plants...is that a good start? Well, I'm blabbing... Have fun with your pup.
