Can you forward the e-mail to me, so I could use their code to buy Evergreen? Cindee, Maria, Pax, any of you interested in Evergreen? If I order the bulbs here, I can still put them in your packages when I send them finally to you. :o)

I live in SC, and was able to visit Wayside in person. I was hoping to be able to browse their nursery and find some nice plants. They only have one section that is open to the public, and those are "sale" plants. I was very disappointed. If that were my nursery, I would have been embarrassed to have those things for sale - they were all in very poor condition. I didn't see the hydrangea I came for, so I asked at the counter, and they brought a few very nice plants from the greenhouse for me to pick through. Sounds like they are probably pulling plants from the sale section to mail out. After hearing all the horror stories, I would never mail order from Wayside.

Did I mention that I did not NEED any more seeds (and I'm not sure how many I bought...) but I think I found the NICE Home Depot today. They had a good seed selection (I didn't look at the plants though) including some that I think are more unusual varieties (including Armenian Yard Long cucumbers and Long Beans (Zi 28-2) from a "Taste of Asia" line. There were salespeople all over the store just waiting to help someone (I was helped by 3 friendly people during my visit) and when I went to the "self check-out" the lady OFFERED to check me out at her register. I'm absolutely serious (in case anyone wondered). Too bad Monument is a little far away to make that my always-shop-at store (but if I conveniently plan a trip to take the dogs to Fox Run Park for a walk and a swim (swimming is worth traveling for, I have one with bad hips & knees who loves the water) maybe I can justify it...

Ha-Ha! WELCOME to the CRAZY BUNCH, Shayne! I grew up on Anaheims and Jalapenos in a little section of a small town in New Mexico. (That little section of town was, and still is, called Chihuahuito.---which means "Little Chihuahua".) I've always loved and 'needed' my peppers. (Almost starved to death for 20 years ordering "Mexican Food" when I lived in Colorado.) One day, out in the garden, I spied a ripe "Caribbean Red", popped it in my mouth...tasted GOOD!!!...for about 10 seconds...THEN I RAN FOR THE HOUSE!!!! I drank a quart of milk, ate 1/2 package of crackers, then drank some more milk.....while my "SWEETHEART" laughed like crazy!! Haven't grown any "Caribbean Red" since,... although I have grown some Habaneros (I like the 'citrus flavor')... But I mostly use the really hot ones for 'hot sauce' and/or seasoning. Like Byron, I prefer the flavor of "Anaheim-type" chile peppers. (Roasted Green, for me) But I like to grow a variety of hot peppers.....just to see what they are like! Also, I've noticed that the pain of arthritis is diminished by eating hot peppers (the hotter---the less arthritis pain) just my 2 pesos worth, WELCOME to the CRAZY BUNCH, Shane! I wish I would have found this site earlier. The Wayside Gardens web site is awsome and they have some plants that I can't find at my local nursery or big box stores, however they are a bit pricey. I placed an order (April 2006), received it timely, excellent packaging, There after is where the problem starts! Two of the three plants arrived with the bottom half (and I do mean the whole bottom half) of the plants were covered with some type of leaf blight. The leaves were totally covered in brown spots with dark circles. The tops of the plants were a washed out green covered in some kind of brown fuzz. I called them immediately, and was told it was just some type of fungus plants get due to stress when they are shipped. That all I would have to do is buy some fungicide spray and they will be okay after a week or two. I disagreed with them as the damage was so extensive. They said they try to run very tight quality control, these must have slipped by and they would ship out replacements immediately. In the meantime I ordered some additional bulbs and a couple of more plants using a 15% off coupon they sent. The website said they gave free upgrade shipping, however when I entered the code for the 15% off coupon, the site then added back the additional charge for upgrading the shipping which just happened to cancel out the 15% off. The site would not let me delete or cancel the upgrade . I called again and was promised by the customer rep that he would remove the additional charge and submit the order for processing. The next day I received the replacement plants for the first order. Guess what...... They were in the exact same condition as the plants they were sent to replace. I called again. A different customer gave me the explanation I got the first time and said they could give me an in store credit. I responded that that wouldn't work, but I had another order they could credit. She pulled the order up to apply the credit and surprise, surprise...the first rep did NOT credit the account for the extra shipping charges. I was upset about it all evening and called the next day to cancel the order and get my money back. The third rep once again explained that the horticulturist (???) said the problem was due to wet conditions in the warehouse and shouldn't affect the plants other than they didn't look pretty, I should just spray them. I insisted on cancelling the order, he then said he would try but since it was already into processing he couldn't guarantee the cancellation!! Save your money...... buy somewhere that doesn't play games with their customers.

Yes, I got my newsletter on that last night and was going to post. I simply must try a new one at those prices...by the way, my Picotee is just about to open. It has started to show a touch (1mm) of white!

Soultan... I see they do, in fact, have Evergreen available... it's still a bit pricey, though... I wonder how fast that will sell out again?! And they've added Apricot Beauty, as well...

Oh man! I really want to order! Should I?! Dare I?! I don't know what to do!! This is crazy!!

Evergreen is not in the 2 for 1 offer... Oh well. Ordering that with shipping will be WAY too expensive, so I guess, I will have to pass on it. $28.90 for one single bulb is a little bit extreme. Maybe some other time.

It's a good deal, buy 1 get 1 free, but I think you will be paying shipping cost for the regular price of the 2 bulbs. I am done with Wayside and Park Seed this season. They do send out good bulbs. Have fun everybody!

Boy, I'd really love to take advantage of the BOGO offer, but I'm beyond my capacity for the season... if this were a month or two earlier, I'd be all over that offer, like flies on... well, you know... Hehe! I'm really sad that I have to pass it up, but that's how it goes... too late, too cold, and too broke!

You know... a drug habit might actually be cheaper to have than an Amaryllis addiction! LOL!

I am afraid that I don't. It is a two-for-one special, but the bulbs are probably fairly good sized. They describe most of their bulbs as "top-size" but then, I suppose they would! They do not claim them to be jumbo, but I have ordered from Wayside Gardens before and found them to be honest and with good products in my experience. You might read the catalogue and see what you think.

I haven't ordered any Amaryllis bulbs from Wayside, but I have gotten roses and perennials... they've sent nice plants, packaged well... I would think their bulbs would be nice, too.

I just received my Zombies friday. Buy One Get one at 4.98 Total!! Nice healthy roots. I thought it was a real bargain.

Eeek, I posted to this last night and it is not showing up! It was a confession that CHAD made me do it...I ordered one of the Evergreen (Lust, lust!), and the "twofers" of Promise and the white one. I would not have done that but then realized that my whites from last year are taking time off, and I will need those for post Christmas bouquets.

IT is raining cats and dogs and little fishes here this morning, with 4 different weather warnings on "weatherbug". Sure hope the power does not go out in my greenhouse or everyone will catch cold out there! Our gas fireplace is down for "maintainance" (backordered parts) so can not bring them into the house to warm up either. IN this weather we get slides on the edge of of the island that take power poles down with them. We are high (But not dry) on top of the island so we only have a problem if the wind blows trees down, but being without power on this end of the island is a misery.

We've had the strangest weather... yesterday, freezing rain and freezing temperatures all day... today, it's raining cats and dogs and a plethora of large animals, but it was 56 degrees this morning! I do believe the temperature has dropped a bit from this morning's heat wave, but the rain is not freezing yet... it is extremely windy out there now...

We have a saying in Illinois... "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute!" Hehe!

Who knows what tomorrow will bring...
