I have had a nice time "Messing around with plants" today. First I sorted out all my Amies who's leaf health I am not positive of and trucked them back to my work room where they will be isolated from the rest of them. They went in under the old light system in there.

Back in my greenhouse I got hubby to hoist a new bag of potting soil into my dry sink so I could pot up my Van Engelen and Colorblends amies.(Danged shoulder still not healed up.) From Colorblends I had Naranja, Grand Cru and Antarctica, 3 of each. From VE I have 3 each of Evergreen, Wedding Dance, Red Pearl and Cocktail. I am not quite sure now why I ordered these variates back in July ...just ones I thought would be useful or fill in gaps in my colors. I do like big white ones.

I also planted up crates of tulips to force in the greenhouse for Valentines Day sales, and early spring bouquets and orders. Hubby moved my old shelves that stood in my collapsible (collapsed!) and we will use that to chill the bulbs outside the north side of the greenhouse.

It feels good to have spent the day this way and get this much done even in the drizzling rain spats. The bulbs look so nice, all big and plump and clean and ready to grow!

The big storm is due to hit today. At 8:30 AM here it is getting darker and trees are dancing with impatience. I am so curious as to how this one will be...Sure hope we put that greenhouse together well!

I should go out and make one last picking of dahlias before they are all broken and pounded into the ground.

Masha, my 'Heritage' was one of the later roses to begin blooming this year, but it is in full gear now, popping them out one after another. It will continue to do that until first freeze. I know you will be glad to see yours begin blooming soon. Buff, thank you for the nice compliment. Like yours, my camera is also a Kodak EasyShare. The model is MX1063. I like it quite a lot. One of its strengths is that it captures color true to life. It is really easy to use, and very small. It doesn't do everything my old, and much, much more expensive Canon did, and no doubt would not have enough features for a "real" photographer. But it captures color more accurately, is a lot more user-friendly, & downloads files in a fraction of the time that the Canon took. It's perfect for my needs. The next thing I need to do is to get some photo software for my laptop. Organic, that is so cool to see the very first bloom on a new little rose. You know the bloom is usually not up to the quality of when the plant is bigger, but it is such a good feeling to see the first one. My 'White Pearl in Red Dragon's Mouth' china rose band just opened up its very first bloom ever this week. It was so good to see it, even though a bug had eaten half of the bud before it opened. Even with the bloom half eaten, I am so proud of it. Another bloom on the 'Black Gamecock' iris opened up, and it is as perfect as the first one. I think that one may be destined to become my favorite La iris. It's really fast growing. Randy

Hey Nev, just loading some pics now of that brom with the roooooly long name(in my eyes)LOL When photographing it i noticed it had a fair amount of fly speck scale...dam dam. But when i do buy from that lady alot of her gardens have it and broms so they stay in a group at my place till they are sprayed..anyhow..... Here is a side view of it, its just a cut pup The top view is not showing alot of colour right now as its come from a place where it does not see alot of light and is overly fertilised, so im suspecting it is not the colour it is supposed to be at the moment Jennie Jennie Jennie, I found a few broms that i got from you, some recently and some a while back Yang *love it* something or rather flowered and is pupping Mexicana? OOOHHHHHHH he is the man on the grandstand, I love it so much. Its the biggest brom ive recieved via mail order ever, but has certainly tripled in size.May I ask how much light he can handle? does he look spindly or too green? Im being careful with him as i dont wanna burn him. he is the bright sunlight green section, but i was thinking he could handle the cream cloth too and be in more light? And this pendulant guy too has a pup ready to cut there is a grasshopper that loves to munch on it...grrrrrr I know i have heaps more from you, but seeing as though I just moved and shuffled all my broms around they are hard to find at a quick glance....in fct ive lost alot of broms in the shuffle, they are there somewhere but im not used to all their new homes yet...LOL....Its a surprise in every corner

Glenda, that sure looks like fun and good food. Love carrot cake. From what I can see he looks great for his age. Georgysmom, it will be fun no matter what's for dinner. Enjoy! Mary, you sure do cook on your days off! Dinner sounds delicious--every bit of it. Especially green beans from the garden. Would love to be at your house tonight. Shirley, another wonderful dinner. I like Stovetop so much I hardly ever make my own anymore. I add more sauteed onion and celery, extra broth and bake it a little in the oven. Just call me Sandra Lee--semi-homemade :-) Phoggie, wish I could send some rain to you and I know Mary would probably carry it on her back to get rid of it. Hope you get some soon--those farms depend on good crops! Jasdip, I saw in the paper's weather report you were having nice weather today, and even better tomorrow (cooler). We are now having serious rain showers aka cloudbursts. I was in my greenhouse potting up those amaryllis and it was just like being inside a waterfall! Kind of fun! I closed the vents at the roof peak, and let her rip. DH was out drilling the forgotton weep holes in the framework so he is way wetter then me! I even found a gap in the rain to get back to the house (About 30'away) but It would have been easier had I worn my boots!

Anyhow, all my big orders of amies are now planted except for one that came with an inch and a half long crack between the basal plate and layers of the bulb. As far as I can see, that whole section of the bulb has no way to get nutrition from the roots. I'll try to photograph it tomorrow and show you and see what you think...should I complain to Van Engelen or just plant it and see what happens. IT looks healthy so far, but I can't imagine any scenario but rot. It is one of 3 Evergreens, the ones I most want to do well.

Sounds like a fun day in the GH.....my goal is to sit in a GH while the snow falls around me! Hope the new GH stood up well to the storms :o) Dan

Storm was kind of a bust here in sheltered Puget Sound. Guess it is pretty wild out along the ocean. Just a lot of rain for us,but not spectacular amounts. And it is fairly warm too.
