Storing South African Amaryllis bulbs

I recently received my order of South African amaryllis bulbs and some of them have scapes peaking out. As I don't plan to plant all of them at the same time and rather stagger them with 2 weeks interval, I emailed Hadeco to inquire about what storing temp., humidity and length of time I can store the bulbs. This is my first time with SA amaryllises and just wanted to know if they needed different growing techniques than Holland grown bulbs. To my surprise, I got a reply from Mr. Barnhoorn himself. These are his recommendations:

- store bulbs between 42F and 54F. 48F is best and never drop the temp below 42F

- Humidity level 65%-75% RH

- Do not store bulbs beyond January as it's quality will begin to deteriorate.

- visit www.hadecoamaryllis.com for more growing tips.

Now this is for storing bulbs without any new growth yet. Bulbs which have leaves or scapes coming out should be planted immediately.

Just wanted to share this to everybody and my deepest gratitude to Mr. Barnhoorn for responding.
