I had seen this site before too and thought - How Bizarre! Obviously Photoshopped. At least that is what the faces and people look like to me. Like they were cut and pasted in, but why. Except what happened here, it gets mentioned and people go to the site so gets free publicity.

And I seriously doubt they paid for the stock images they're using...

I don't know how that place stays in business with all the negative feedback they get!

OK, when I saw this post, I had to comment. I paid for three mother bulbs, outrageous shipping charge "because they are so heavy", and for around $100, I received three bulbs like the kind you see left over at Home Depot for $3. They were belligerent when I called and would not replace the bulbs. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM. TYTY=AARONS.

I am resurrecting this thread to remind everyone to think thrice before ordering from TyTy or Aaron's Cannas. I have not met a customer who was happy with them. The reason I thought of them today is because I just lifted my bulbs from the amaryllis bed, and I was surprised. Almost all of my bulbs were healthy, huge, beautiful. They gained weight and had wonderful roots. But when I lifted the Apricot Sensation, I was suprised. I got this bulb from Aaron's TWO years ago. It did not flower for me. Last year, it did not flower for me. This year, I could bet it will not flower for me. The bulb refuses to grow. It is still the size of a chicken egg. I don't know what they do to their bulbs, but I just had so many problems with the only package I ordered from them, that I will try to talk people out of ordering anything from them. This is a troubled company.
Will I ever see Apricot Sensation bloom for me? Will it be apricot at all? I suspect it is hippeastrum. It looks like one at least.

I have experience with one single cultivar which "does not want to grow" (under MY huisbandry) - that is: "Pink Floyd" (not from TyTy *LOL*)it might in fact be that some cultivars might not perform under the specific conditions actually provided. But, another reason might be an infestation with virus. Do the leaves of your "Apricot Sensation" reveal any special (dis)coloration?

I have not ordered from them, and will not order from them... and I find their website to be completely grotesque... if they were going for "different", they've succeeded... and not in a good way!

I have a question regarding bulbs that produce very stunted scapes which grow a few inches tall, try to open blooms, fail and then die... the bulbs remain solid and appear healthy, but there is no valid flower production...

Any clue as to why this would occur? Is it viral or a pest infestation? I have had three bulbs do this, and they are not from the same source... Misty, Jade Serpent and Vesuvius.

Vesuvius also appears to have some reddish coloration on its outer scales...

Any insight would be appreciated... I ask here, in this thread, because Sir Hans seems to be reading and I value his opinion... :-)

Seems maybe like this site is in line with some strange "bath room behaviour" or "talk" and like it's not really a "bulb" store at all...but a place to find a gay lover?

Maybe you "order" the plants and get more details on the models?

I had one do that. The flower was beautiful, but had no stem. I think I may have top watered it. From then on I've bottom watered all my pretties, and they are not exposed to the outside. Only problem with them being inside all the time, they never want to go dormant and just grow and grow - huge plants with lots of thick dark green leaves. I really MUST have the space for the items that need to come inside so have to shove them back under the little deck in the greenhouse. It makes me sad.

I just keep thinking that these three bulbs either have a virus or pests of some kind... I've never seen this before in hippeastrum bulbs... it's rather disconcerting as I have so many, and don't want whatever it is to spread... I have the bulbs separated, but things have a way of traveling through a space, especially when it's a small apartment!

the leaves are beautiful and green. I generally had weak results with this company's bulbs. I haven't seen any of the 10 blooming yet.

Neither Vesuvius, nor Jade Serpent are sick at my place. They are very slow shooting up scapes, that is for sure. I have not seen either of them in bloom yet. I suspect that they are Hadeco bulbs, so they like to get planted very early in the season, so the fact that we got them so late stunted their flowering capability. I don't give up on them though. I will see how they do this coming season, and I will plant them as soon as possible, right in September-October. Also, the scape that is emerging from Vesuvius, also "discolored" here. I believe it is because this variety is a deep red colored flower, so it has this special discoloration. Infestation would show up with a visible scar that you can actually touch on the surface.
I believe that these three bulbs have insufficient roots developed. Have you checked them? I have seen short scape on Fanfare, but the flowers are fanfare, and the scape and growth is healthy, so the late planting and lack of roots that I'd blame it on. I have had a lot of first year bulbs that did that to me, and I almost always discovered that they had no roots, or just very weak ones, then when they finished pretending blooming, they got very strong and grew wonderful leaves and cemented themselves to the dirt with their roots...
Though I cannot rule out the infestation, that is for sure, because I don't know anything about the forementioned Misty you had the same problem with. I just rely on my own experiences with the Hadeco minis that were in the same package, so I should have infestation as well if they were sick. Maria got them now too, so she can tell us if they are sick or not. I believe they are not. They are just planted way late. Sorry about that.

They are truly bizarre! I have seen them before and of course they seem to sell everything one could ever possibly want. That to start with is suspect. The pictures are truly funny and it is a bit creepy; agreed.

I would stay away from them like the plague. The have sent me catalogues which promptly are ignored and go straight into the trash.

It is amazing that they can stay open with so much bad press that they have earned; but I still read about some bad deal that they gave someone every once in awhile.

Don't be sorry! They are all good bulbs, all solid and otherwise healthy... it's only Vesuvius and Jade Serpent that didn't want to produce blooms... I think you are correct, though, and they are out of sinc with their normal growth period... If your bulbs are healthy, then mine should be, also... I think that a summer outdoors will strengthen them up, and they will most likely bloom just fine after that...

As far as Misty is concerned... maybe it's the same thing... it's just not a very strong bulb... I will simply observe them, and see how they do... the roots feel like they grew, as they are firm in the pots...

Since I've never seen anything like this happen, I'm not sure what the problem is... but now that you mention the bloom time, I do recall that the South African bulbs are different than the Dutch Hybrid bulbs...

I will keep my eye on them, and if I notice anything else, I will update... I've sprayed them with a miticide, so in case they did pick up anything, it is taken care of...

I don't really know how can they grow Hadeco varieties if according to Mr. Barnhoorn of Hadeco, they are not licencing their varieties out to anyone else, so Hadeco varieties are shipped directly from South Africa. So what are Aaron's sites sell? They state they grow their bulbs. So something is a little off here. I understand that the human models are not copyrighted, but Hadeco's varieties are, right?

Well, yesterday I performed a brief research on the issue....

"XxXx nursery is a bunch of crooks" etc...

Certainly they do not know what a license is, so, it is the "least hurdle" for them, *LOL*
