Queens of the Desert

We went camping last weekend in the Anza-Borrego desert. Saw many more butterflies then I would have expected!

Near our campsite there was a whole group of about 9 Queens nectaring on the desert shrubs ( sorry on ID at this time!). This was a record number for me. I have never seen so many at one place at one time.

We also spotted a few monarchs near a palm oasis.

(We also saw a heard of 14 Big horn Sheep! Very rare, only about 300 in the whole state park area of 600,000 acres)

Great pictures. I think I've seen more Queens this past week just before we had a cold spell than I did all summer and fall. I'll have to make some pictures small enough to post because I have a lot of interesting ones lately.

Those sheep are neat to see. That's not something I get to see very often and I love them. Sounds like you had a fun trip.

Check out the green rose, maybe that is something odd you might like too. I hear this one does pretty good, I actually want one, and you can find people selling plants. I am with buford, if I did not hope it was because it was such a vigorous growing band, the shovel would have come after Archduke Joseph. And then I discovered another rose doing it too. It was indeed nice to see Stainless Steel on the trophy table again. Ron, it was an excellent specimen..first class..Congrats to you & Modine. Suzanne, congrats to you on your mini queen with Dancing Flames + your other winnings..You did well as always. Personally I was happy to get out there with a few roses & get on the table. It is indeed rare that I would have some stuff this late in the cycle + Santa Ana winds.. Congrats to all the winners!!!

Loved "The Castle" although I think the company that released it for the US, felt they needed to dub over bits of it so that Americans could understand it. Also from "down under", an off-beat love story: Eagle vs Shark and quite possibly the best comedy about Austrailan lawn bowling: Crackerjack (from 2002) And from France: "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" a comedy about a postal worker who gets transferred to "the sticks" in Northern France.
