Thank you so much for the kind words. I spent a lot of time on this forum, looking at all of your roses, before I started digging the area for the first roses. Nancylee, there is a clematis, Venosa Violacea that is on that tree and will be blooming soon. Kittymoonbeam, that winding road had a couple deer on it one day...DH couldn't understand why I wasn't thrilled. Fortunately, (for the deer and me) they went back the other way and never visited my garden. Kippy, Purple Splash is more like red splash here when it heats up, but I really like it, this is its second year in my garden. Thanks Marleah. Jude has to be one of the most photogenic roses around. zjw727...everyone on this forum is an enabler. Don't you love it? Ingrid, I appreciate a compliment from someone with such a beautiful garden, but the heat will affect my roses...I can water freely, however, so that is a help. Strawberryhill. thank you for the nice compliment from such a knowledgeable person. I do love the roses. Gean, That is exactly what I do...except I take photos every morning too. I have iris (beginning to slow down) and daylilies, (just beginning to bloom) so I start taking pictures with the first tulip in February til October or November...thank goodness for digital. The really good thing, this year, for some reason, the fragrance has wafted from the roses more than it ever had before. I love to sit on my bench, drink lemonade, and enjoy the birds and the butterflies flitting around while I look at and inhale the fragrance of my roses No, Mauvegirl, not equally as amazing as the gorgeous rose covered California rose bushes, but, hey! It's not California, so I do get a lot of lookers and slow drivers, and occasional visitors who want to look at the flowers...or get a rose or two. It is a work of love, like most gardens, Rosefolly. Jim, losing a pecan tree is hard. We expect them to live a long time. We thought we might keep our tree, but I've limbed it up so much the top towers way up there and if it went it would be taking the roof with it. Only a few shingles are messed up this time. Yes, what to do with the shade plants will be the challenge here too. Also wondering what to do with the huge coral vine that would travel to the top of the tree every year. Gail, I knew this time might come someday and have planted a few small ornamental trees around the yard to hopefully take up the slack when the A. ash finally bit the dust, but they haven't had time yet to grow much so I'm planning to plant a Lacey oak for posterity. We had to laugh at our poodle, Sport. With the noise he went running outside with us, looked up at the limb and uttered one soft 'woof'. I've never known him to woof only once. It was like he was saying "Dang!" ... pretty much my thoughts too ... LOL

Actually, and it's weird I know this, his website, Thanatos (Greek for death), is one that displays post mortem portraiture from the Victorian Era. He's been collecting those daguerreotypes for a long time. No doubt he came across it, and the chances are high it's real since he's come in contact with so many cartes. I wouldn't doubt it was real. Uncanny resemblance. But then, I've always thought there was a distinctive look to Mr. Cage. Here is a link that might be useful: his website

I saw this v. refrigerator (well, it was brown) on an episode of HGTV's Spice Up My Kitchen and the homeowners had candy jars (filled with cereal) on the shelf. Looked super cute! Needless to say, they hated it. Hated it. They said the capacity was crap (okay, I said that -- I think they said it was "horrible") and that with only one small child (as opposed to a few children, or older children who consume more) they had to visit the grocer daily because the fridge just couldn't hold enough. Seriously, I nearly cried. If you've ever had a small child you'll know that some days it's a miracle to brush your teeth, but to know that every single day you not only have to brush your teeth but be presentable enough to the world to go to the market? No way! Pink is my favorite color. But for $800 I can buy a lot of pink fingernail polish and admire my toenails for decades to come ... plus have a new fridge. But I'd love to see the Jetson house into which this fridge eventually makes its home! Well, Jetson or Mary Kay devote(e).

This is *completely* off-topic, but has anyone else had the experience of going to certain pages of the brom index on FCBS and having Google Toolbar tell you it's in Romanian?

I haven't tried their translation, LOL.

If you click on the link in my post above, Nev, doesn't it say at the top of the page: "This page is in Romanian. Translate it using Google Toolbar"? Maybe it's just me. Time to double up on my meds, LOL.

At any rate, I decided to try their "translation", just to see what they would come up with. Most things remained the same, a few species names got capitalized and some words ending in A got anglicized, e.g. A. ramosa var. Festiva became A. ramos var. Festive, etc.

A few other interesting changes: A. wide (A. alopecurus), A. comatose (A. comata), A. thumbnails (A. miniata), Aechmea's eagle (A. moorei), A. Trough (A. Covata), A. Fulgo-eagle (A. Fulgo-fasciata), A. Still (A. Inca), A. Mini-horse (A. Mini-cal), A. Land (A. Terena).

Yeah, I'm easily amused, but it does seem like the Romanians have a lot of words for eagle. ;-)

No my computer just opens up at the FCBS site for aechmea species. Nothing about Rumania on the tool bar, just "Bromeliad Photo Index - Aechmea".

You may have a 'Bulgarian bromeliad gremlin' in your computer.
