They WS very well--I WS 'Butter & Sugar' & 'Sky Wings' seeds from nan6161. They're nice, healthy plants, about 9-10" tall now. I harvested seedpods off my deep blue plants this afternoon. I actually should divide the clump and spread the wealth to other areas of the garden but it's 2 ft. in diameter so I don't think I can do the job alone. I've heard they're really difficult to dig out & divide.

Iris are rhizones..how do you collect seeds from the Iris flower? Any photos..like show and tell?

The plant has so many dead seed pods right now. I took one this afternoon and broke it, there were tons of seeds.

The reason I call it Iris is because the person who sold it to me told me last 2007 calls it Blue Bearded Iris.

I have pics of the flowers but not the seedpods. I left them this year after the flowers were finished blooming, just to see what they'd look like. I didn't expect it to take this long for them to mature/ripen. Normally I deadhead my Siberian iris but for grins 'n giggles I left them alone this year to see what the seedpods looked like. Essentially they're what's left after the flowers are finished only instead of green they're a deep mahogany brown and very hard. The tips are open enough you can see the seeds inside. My bearded iris formed seedpods too but those are still green.

What exactly do I have?

Yes, that is what mine exactly looks like. :D I noticed today, the clump is bigger. :) When I bought them from the old lady, it only had 3 or 4 blades. I paid $3 for them.

Another thing I noticed is that they only flower for a week or may 10 days. I was really hoping I can get back to Chicago before June 6 but I arrived June 8. I missed all the flowers. :( I didn't see any.

Yes, I haven't really made a note of how long they bloom but it isn't long enough. They do pack a punch with the intense blue but they're too soon gone. I love irises but they always seem to bloom just as we have the first really hot weather of the season. The Siberian iris are growing in full sun but my bearded/Dutch iris are only in morning sun. They don't seem to care either way.

That's siberian iris, not bearded iris. I like siberian iris better than bearded because the foliage is more attractive, IMO.

Gardenweed, I soooooo agree about Siberian iris not blooming long enough. It's beautiful when it does, though. But every spring, unless I'm out there seeing them every day, I feel like I get gypped.

I love the foliage too. I'm going to try wsing them early next year. I would like to put tons of plants to the new patio I'm building. Hopefully, I'll finish it this year. :D

And yes, the flowering only last like 4 days. :(

Over the years I've found that bloom time for Siberians is
longer if season is cooler. I also have Caesar's Brother Siberians planted in several different locations from full sun to partial sun, high and dry, and low and damp. Each plant only blooms a few days but the ones in part shade bloom later so the season of bloom is extended a little.

IF (and it's a huge IF) I can divide my clump of Siberian iris this fall, I'll plant some in shade to see if the bloom time is longer. I've certainly got a large enough clump to plant them in several different spots if I can divide them. I've heard they're tough. They multiply fast too. My neighbor gave me a small clump of them 3 years ago and it has quadrupled in size (or more) since I planted it. I'm growing a white/yellow variety (Butter 'n Sugar) as well as a lighter blue one (Sky Wings) from seed. I thought they'd make a nice contrast with the darker blue one, that is, if they all bloom at the same time. I don't have a good track record with that however--long on ideas, short on results.
