sweet peas and 4 oclocks

i have a question about sweet peas. do they die about this time of year. i have a few that i ws'd and they are dieing, will they come back if i don't collect the seeds?

my 4 oclocks are very very fragrent. i didn't know they would smell so good. i'm going to ws lots of them this winter.

Not sure, but I think sweet peas like cool weather. Also, after setting seed they'll die. I'm pretty sure that they will not comeback, except from seed.

Did you have any japanese beetle problems on your 4oclocks? I'd like to try them but people say the beetles love them.

I've always thought Sweetpeas were cool weather plants, but mine didn't even start coming into flower until hot July! I was amazed that through 3 weeks of 90+F weather they were thriving! Now It's been 90+ again this entire week and they don't look like their giving up the ghost yet!! I'm wondering if these newer varieties are better resistant to heat maybe? Not sure if mine is an old or new variety, but am growing 'Miss Wilmott'.
As far as the 4 O'clocks are concerned I had to direct sow mine kinda late after no luck this year ws'ing them (a first) so no blooms yet, but I do love their smell!!
For now I'll enjoy the evening smell of Nicotiana and Datura :))

Sweet Alyssum, Thyme and 4 o'clocks - too late to sow?

I think the alyssum will flower. The four oclocks will, this is around the time I plant mine. Soak your 4 oclock seeds overnight and that will speed things up. It can take forever if you dont. I dont know about thyme. I have never planted it. good luck carey

Cindee ~ I just sent off 18 pkgs of 12 blue pea vine seeds, 18 pkgs of 12 mixed 4 o'clocks, plus 18 pkgs of 12 alamo vine seeds in a seed swap in Cottage Gardens. The 4 o'clocks are fantastic and I love their vibrant color and sweet scent. The blue pea vines are a favorite, but they can get out of hand very quickly. The alamo vine is pretty and has cool looking seed pods. Do you grow Alamo vines? I would love some seeds of the blue salvia is you have some to spare. I could send you some of the alamo vine seeds in trade. Let me know because I'll have to go out and collect some. FlowerLady

October, no I didn't have any problem with Japanese Beetles. I've ws'n them before with no problem then either. Your the first I've heard of the beetles bothering them. But don't let that stop you. There sent is wonderful

Vera, I had so many from wsing this year I HOS'd them. I think thats why the smelled to good, they were in big clumps.
