I'll go with plunk and run- then water water water- course of action. I find it is much more difficult to keep plants in trays and containers during the summer. Placing all young plants in same bed would help greatly, and you do not have to keep any distance- whatever overwinters next spring you will divide or transplant.

i truely understand!! i still have some that i'm "waiting" for to develop. but mine are in pt shade. and they are loving it there for some reason. i have a bed that i'm preparing for them. and then in they go. then one more bed for what ever i have that i will want to plant later!! LOL i'm sure i will need one more at least!! LOL but none have died on my yet. THANK GOD!!!! i'd feel so very bad if they did!!! ~Medo

I got a sweet pep talk from hubby this afternoon, and got to work on the big bed. I think the upper terrace will be ready for plunk and run by Sunday. It is starting to look like a garden, and there was better soil in there than I expected.

Medontdo, I'm glad your babies are doing well in the shade. It is good to hear that at least one other person has seedlings still left to plant.

Lindalana, Plunk and run it is. Everything will be going in the same new 500 sq. ft. bed. Thank you for the encouragement and strategy. It is much needed.

I also have seedlings to plant that are still in their ws jugs. Even have some heuchera that is two years old and in the same ws jug. Maybe tomorrow.

I've got a bunch of winter sown perennial seedlings in pots at the moment. They seem to be doing just fine. And I have been meaning to get them planted out so they can establish their root system before winter.

However, if we keep getting passing rain showers every day it gets alittle bit difficult to accomplish this task. :o(

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! I'm so afraid the little guys will get destroyed if they are subject to being outside my screen porch! I guess I should get to planting too......too bad they make me come to this darn job everyday!

For perennials, fall plantout is a beautiful thing. No reason to push the envelope unless you want to.

This is too funny! I haven't checked the forum in awhile, and just this morning I told myself it was time to get at least some of those containers planted, lol! And then I come and see this thread!

Some of the annuals (coleus, heliotrope, impatiens, nasturtiums) I just plopped in pots for the patio - so much for my grand container schemes, lol. I just stuck as many as I reasonably could in old pots (and even used the old potting soil that was still in them from last year, I must confess, lol!) and placed them on the patio.

Then I planted out a few rudbeckias and echinaceas. Definitely a plunk and run mission.

So, I emptied out about seven containers today. Probably have at least another dozen to go.

Not to mention the containers of sunflowers I sowed last week that germinated and are growing like gangbusters....

Sounds like a good plan to put everything in a "holding" bed and then you can move stuff around next Spring. I am doing that with some things.

No doubt, my winter-sowing ambitions were bigger than the garden beds that were ready for planting! I've been planting out as fast as I can figure out where things are going, and then prepare beds, which isn't terribly fast. I haven't stopped planting even in mid-summer, since we are having a very wet and somewhat cool summer.

I've also potted up a lot of seedlings into 16 oz cups, or small nursery pots, etc. which were so crowded in their containers that I had to do something, and I had no clue where I wanted to plant them. And there are STILL a few plants in their original winter-sowing containers. Yikes.

Here is what my winter-sowing "nursery" looks like now - this is in partial sun, and I haven't had to water at all because of the constant rain. There are about 75 potted plants, as well as a few in the original containers. There's even a few milk jugs that I'm still hoping will sprout.

I'm glad some of you gals are in the same boat as me. Two neighbors have stopped by this week asking about my flats. It is SO embarassing to have these little plants just clinging to life for all to see. I can't imagine what was going through the mind of the landscape architect neighbor.

Oh, and Sunday has come and gone, and the top terrace is not finished.
