I have Malva sylvestris and it's busy making seeds now, so I've been meaning to cut it back (partly because I want a rebloom and partly because I don't want the million seedlings it produced last year). I haven't cut it back yet, but after a week of no blooms, I noticed some of them are starting to bloom again even without cutting back. But from my experience last year, it will be a much sparser bloom this time, so I still intend to cut them back. Just need to get to it!

bumping this post up, it may be valuable to others as well What is the concensus on WS Gallardia; will it bloom the first yr? Making a bed in the front and want everything I put there to bloom. One of the commenters said WS perennials are more likely to bloom, I'm hoping that is true for Gallardia and many of my other perennials. Can anyone add to this list. I've been away for awhile but sowed 350 jugs this yr. I'm very busy potting things up. Thanks to all the posters here for all your help, enthusiasm, and encouragement. thanks also to trudy who sent me heirloom seeds twice ( I gasve a set away to a blind man who wanted to sow them; cool huh?), so needed another. I love WSing and will always do it every yr. I've never ever had this kind of success. Went from being a beginner perennial sower to a pro over night, LOL thanks to WSing. Hope everyone is enjoying their Spring and everything is germinating. One more ques, SORRY. When do we give up on a jug? I've put them all together, and have little activity out of about 30 out of the 350, I'd say thats pretty good. They are in a sunny locationa nd kept watered. They are under cold frame at night and to watrm up the jugs in the morning and top lifted during the warm days. I know the Trees will take longer. I had a few trees germ for me already. Catapala, 1 Locust Germ and Golden Chain tree. Having fun yet? Micki

Webcat Either the red or the burgundy. I've got pink ones, one is a very pale pink with a white eye, the other is pink with a red eye. I've got so many seeds of the pink with the white eye that I finally started dead heading them, so no seed pods would develop. I snatched a few seed pods of a burgundy one last year or the year before, but it has not flowered yet. I've also got seeds of Texas star hibiscus, that is really growing slowly this year. I wonder do they peter out after a few years? I started white texas star last winter sowing season, wintered them over in a holding bed and one is setting a flower now, but it looks very spindly. I'm hoping to get seeds from it before the season is over. The reds that you have shown are just to drool for, LOL. They are absolutely georgous!! So if you have some seeds for either red, please keep me in mind. Alberta

This must be a massachusetts thing.I got one last summer off ebay and it bloomed this year.One stem is pale pink and the other white with the red eye.I am sure I only planted one hibiscus in that spot.
