Here is a small part of what keeps me busy (and happy).

{{gwi:425478}} with green echinacea. red and green variegated alstroemeria, lime sublime rose, and not in bloom, mint julep callas and other bulbs. To the left, out of sight is a Limelight hydrangea.

It's all beautiful, Lizalily! And you have an arbor for Polka! Fabulous!

I love the greens! And speaking of green, Green Ice was the only miniature rose not eaten by bugs in our garden... I wonder why? The pink and red minis around it were chewed to shreds, by Green Ice remains untouched and blooming...

Looks like Virginia Creeper ( Parthenocissus quinquefolia) by the leaves. Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata) has ivy shaped leaves. they're both nice, but invasive as hell. My neighbour planted some Virginia creeper on our shared fence about five years ago and for the past two years I've been trying to get rid of it on my side - it gets into my pots in the summer and generally takes over. A place up the street had to do some extensive work around the windows and roof a few years ago because some Boston Ivy had damaged the wood and water had been getting in. I wouldn't put it anywhere near a house - just in case. Take a look at Parthenocissus henryana, aka Silvervein Creeper. Supposedly it is not as invasive as the other two but it still has the beautiful fall colour and has nicer leaves during the summer (in my opinion anyway). It might not be hardy in an exposed location though - we're kind of at the northern end of its possible range :-( BP

Debra, I have plenty of weeds...but I'm glad you couldn't see them. It's a constant battle. I was going to use my usual *free* wood-chip mulch, but when I went to pick it up, it was full of army ants. So I'm having to buy pine straw this year. I put down 20 bales last weekend and I'm only about 1/3 finished. It will help control the weeds, but...Egads...I'd rather spend my money on plants! Michelle, We had a few snowflakes on Friday, but I know it's nothing compared to the cold and snow most of the country is getting. Hurry up Spring! Vickie, Yes, that is LADY NEVA. She always puts on a good show here. But we water early in the morning and when those big flowers get wet, it causes the scapes to lean....so I have to stake them. The crape myrtle trees bloom mid-summer here. They add a lot of color when most things are struggling with the heat. My favorite is the white Natchez....even the bark is beautiful. Like you, I'm also glad the balloon flowers self seed. The coleus also self seed here and I had thousands of volunteers this year. Here are a few of them... From FlowerBeds Julia, Go ahead and complain. I do...I hate cold weather. If it's below 50, I'm the biggest crybaby you've ever seen. Sharon, I won't give up the begonias. I love them all, especially the fancy leaved varieties. But I learned my lesson...shade plants for me. Glad y'all enjoyed the pics! Kathy

I don't know Leasa, as pictures can be deceiving when you can't take in the full view. But after seeing the pictures taken from the upstairs window I really think this garden had a plan to it originally. The cedars are well placed and form a semi circle from what I can tell with the circle garden being the focal point. It almost looks like the trees were intended to form garden "Rooms". Have you spoken with the garden club/society in your area to see if the former owner was a member? There is a chance that if you start asking around there may be some people who knew the owner and they may have info or pictures of what the grounds used to look like. Also, maybe long time neighbors could help you to sort it out. Of course you may just want to tear into it and make it all your own. Just thought I'd share what I saw in the pictures. MeMo

I just love it when folks post shots of their yard! Individual flowers are nice, but the big picture is fantastic! Yours is gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Thank you for letting me piggyback onto your Garden Shots... I, too, enjoy viewing the larger pictures of everyone's gardens. At this point in time, some of the garden areas don't look like much, but with the cooler weather, many plants are putting out a fall flush of color.

Jodik, are the yellow ones hemerocallis? They have a nice colour, love them!

Yes... Hemerocallis, or Daylily as they're commonly known. I believe that variety is called "Big Bird". The actual blooms are huge! Earlier in the season, each bloom opens bigger than most dinner plates! A spectacular, showy variety!

Lizalily's gardens are a lot more lush than mine are... I attribute that to location and climate. Mine look really good from early spring to about mid summer... and then the heat sucks all the lushness out of my gardens. After that, there's a brief second flush of bloom in the cooler weather of early autumn, and then the gardens decline, getting ready for dormancy and winter.

I enjoy watching the gardens change and evolve throughout the seasons... from the first bulbs to show themselves in early spring, to the last flower and the "dried bouquet" look of snowy winter. It's all so amazing!
