If she doesn't have any left I will let you know. Thanks for the offer. I cracked up when my sister got that crazy look on her face and just blurted out. THEY CAN'T HAVE THEM! She has always wanted plants but doesn't have much money so she always has other things she has to buy. If I realized how happy it would make her I would have took a lot more. I left her money for pots and potting soil and told her how to make compost out of her scraps and leaves and grass clippings. I know it gets expensive to buy all that and pesticide and fertilizer so I will help her along with things. Mom is enjoying the plants also so I'm glad I took them. I should have taken a bigger brug instead of the small rooted cuttings but I was running out of room in the truck. When they get bigger she is going to want more of them after she sees them bloom. Its so hard to picture a full grown brug from a stick with roots, lol. I'm gonna have to beg for a couple of pink canna too, lol. I bet those are something to see! I may just send you the money and let you go ahead and send her some cannas so she can get them going. I'll let you know tomorrow. Maybe if she gets a box full she will give my other sisters a few, lol. I took her a laptop too so when she gets it figured out she can join us on here and put Marian to shame with wanting some of everything, lol. Hello, There are three main viruses which affect cannas. Bean Yellow Mosaic : It causes chlorotic mosaic patterns on the leaves. Hippeastrum Mosaic : It causes crinkled foliage and chlorotic streaking,which weakens and could possibly kill the plants. Canna Yellow mottle : This virus which is the most dangerous causes foliar chlorosis and necrotic mottling (Yellow streaks that eventually turn into brown patches). This causes the plants to look horrible and sometimes die. These viruses are usually spead by insects such as aphids and other pests. One good way to recognise canna virus is to look at the new leaves carefully as the unfurl. If you notice any streaking on the leaves (in non- variegated foliage types)it could be canna virus, especially if the plant is healthy. In variegated foliage cannas it is a little more difficult to identify canna virus. Plants that a stressed or over fertilized can sometimes show similar streaking as canna virus but the streaks usually do not turn brown. Whenever i get new cannas i look for signs of canna virus and if i suspect any has canna virus i get rid of them. Thats how i maintain a healthy stock of cannas. Siam.

I bought a tropicanna last year from Lowes and through even this summer it has grown without any visable problems. I bought a black one a couple weeks ago from a local nursery and it turned out that after spending a couple weeks noticing its growth to be odd, that it was diseased. I have thrown it in the trash, luckily it grew far from my canna and my neighbors. Locally I have noticed most cannas in nurseries are diseased now that I know the traits. I have to wait to see if my other canna was contaminated by pruning off old flowers, though I don't recall having to cut any off. I didnt realize this had all gotten so serious. How is the wholesale trade keeping thier stock alive to even sell them? I would almost think it wouldnt be long before they have nothing left. I had hosta that had virus before among roses and even black eyed susan. Gardening seems too difficult these days with a global plant market distributing out of one place. There are no guards in place to protect our plant supplies and communities. I have a feeling that cold regions probably have the least diseased material since here many people don't plant them yard to yard for which I am thankful. My neighbors have huge numbers of a heritage canna that has been in their family for years so I am trying to keep my yard clean for them too. Isolation by being zone 5 is my only comfort at the moment.

I use Firefox plus the NoScript addon. Honestly, NoScript can be kind of a pain because you have to manually allow websites to run scripts to get certain kinds of functionality. For example, I can read GardenWeb without allowing it, but it doesn't track which posts I've read, and it doesn't let me log in or post. Since GardenWeb itself seems safe, I have it allowed. (Obviously, since I am posting this!) But I don't allow the SEVEN other scripts that want to load when I am on GardenWeb. On lots of other sites, it's like this - you can usually see the main content without enabling anything. But if you want to post, comment, login, etc., you have to allow one or more scripts. The great thing is that NoScript but it blocks virtually all ads and pop-ups. (Ad companies hate NoScript!) Soo...I am not seeing these popups and ads everyone is talking about. I am not getting kicked off the forums, either. NoScript also blocks click-jacking attempts, mouseover malware, automatic redirection to other webpages, javascript-based malware, etc. You can customize it to allow as much functionality as you want for known safe sites. You can also temporarily allow a website that you're checking out, and it will take that site off the approved list as soon as you close Firefox. (Temporary approval is what I usually do - I only permanently approve sites I visit often.) Getting NoScript was a real education to see all of the spyware that even "reputable" sites employ to track your web browsing, searching, and shopping habits. And since you don't know what all of these scripts are, who owns them, and what data they're collecting, you really don't know whether they're tracking personally identifiable information (setting you up for identity theft). After seeing all of that, I won't run a web browser without a script blocker again! I also use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and isn't a system-hog like most AV programs. (I can't tolerate AV software that ties up a large amount of system resources.) I am not saying it's perfect protection, and NoScript takes some user intervention, so it's not "set it and forget it." But I like it and think it provides pretty good protection. It's like putting an alarm system on your car - a determined thief can still steal it. But generally thieves (and virus writers) can find plenty of easier targets.
