It used to take 3-4 years when I left them on their own (without proper feeding).The way this lot is progressing I might get some flowers in MARCH 2007 (I wish and hope).
This lot is mainly singels X doubles.

Arif, those plants look great. That will be a spectacular show! After they bloom, are you going to start over with a new batch of seedlings? What do you plan on doing with the ones you don't keep?

Arif, very nice. I do not have any older pictures to show seedling progress. I like seeing masses of these plantings. It always shows the hope or promise of what will be. Here are a few of mine.

This is one of the wheeled carts I use to move approx. 1K plants around depending on sun or temp conditions. The smaller ones are from Christmas plants. The ones on the top rack are from last summer and really need to be replanted. I hade to cover the cart in poultry wire to keep the squirrels out. Squirrels don't like the dirt much once the bulbs have reached about 1 yr. in age.

These are papillio that are now 3 years old, they need separating and weeding. They get intense mid day and afternoon sun. There were originally 150 or so in this bed. They are now having offshoots, guessing there are ~250.

I am tired of weeding. These following 4' x 32' beds are filled with Mushroom compost. At first I thought they may get burned from too much nitrogen. They did fine and really like the poo. I have a dumptruck load delivered for $250.00. It was worth it. Plus, I have had to do very little weeding - maybe 5 minutes a week. the larger bed has ~300 plants 2 yrs old.

I plant seeds every year.Except for donating somemature bulbs to my golf club and some to my friends/relations I have tried to keep them all.But know my wife is complaining as only a little space is left for annuals. To accomodate my this years seedlings I would be removing my sweet black mulbarry tree.

Weeds are my biggest problum. I shifted some bulbs to my farm,but the weeds grow over them so fast that it proved imprectical venture. I plan to try rice straw as a mulch may be it works.

The 2005 seedlings are now 20 months old. The bulb size is 18 cm, the bulbs have sunk 2-3 inches below the surface. They all have healthy growing leaves although the night temp. these days is -1C.
Bill and HANS, should I remove the surface siol to expose the bulbs or leave them as they are.
Should I expect some of them to bloom in MARCH this spring.

To my utter delight it is showing a scape. I used to get few blooms in third year. A bloom in seedling in less than two years is the reward of following advice of friends from this forum, specialy my teacher HANS.
It is an ofspring of CHRISMA/PHILADELPHIA and I am going to call it HANS SPECIAL.
Let us see what it turns out to be.

WOW Arif, how very exciting! That is a short time for it to be sending up a scape, for sure! And I appreciate you naming it after Hans, who I find is also 'special' and generous with his teaching. Please keep us posted on photos until it blooms. I look forward to watching it's progress with you.

Okay. Waiting for it... My flowers are in a dark, cold garage... So I hope they are waiting for me to bloom... So I just check out others' flowers in the mean time.
