Yes that's it. They are so gorgeous. I have the exact same situation as susanzone5. I bought my 'Autumn Colors' plant in 2003 and it has since reseeded itself every year all over my garden. In fact I have too many now and I often trim them back. (I currently have 3 huge bouquets in my house and the garden is still packed with them!) However, the flowers now, compared to when I bought the plant, are very different. They are smaller and have less autumn coloring overall. Some flowerheads are now pure gold. They are still gorgeous but the first year's flowers were my favorite. The plants are so tall that last week's bad thunderstorm knocked 99% of them over. They're still alive and flourishing but they're now mostly horizontal with the flowerheads bent up toward the sky. I also have perennial 'black-eyed susan' which is Rudbeckia fulgida, with smooth foliage and small thin-petaled gold coneflowers, which are not yet blooming. They will be blooming later this month or next. That grows & spreads like crazy underground, as well as a few seeded new ones here and there. Those plants are nice and sturdy in mostly neat rounded mounds.

How disappointing, ellen. I realize that you have been misled, put through frustration and had to waste your time and energy. Personally I'd take the refund. Usually companies let you keep the plants b/c they don't want to pay shipping back. So even tho' itâÂÂs NOT what you want you would have something for this yr. I googled to see what it looked like and ran into seeds on sale for $2.00 at Select Seeds, where I have never bought but admired pics and have read positive comments from gw posters. Don't know how much shipping costs. But I might buy seeds on sale now to plant next yr. The refund from Santa Rosa should pay for a good quantity of seeds so at least you would not be out the money, only your time, effort and frustration, esp if the seeds produce color variation! Hi Kate, I grew this from seed last year and loved it! However, I used mine for cut flowers, so I didn't notice any reseeding. I also did not have any plants come back for me. But up the street at a local farm, there is a huge clump of it that is gorgeous. I did mention it to the farmer, and we discussed it briefly, but I can't remember if she said it was a plant that came back or if she thinks it reseeded. It did bloom earlier than my newly-seed-grown ones this year, which are just now starting to bloom (hers has been in bloom for 3 weeks, at least. Either way, it was huge and beautiful. This year I will let a few flowers go to seed and see what comes back for me. :) Dee
