For all who were interested in the get-together October 1st, I have reserved the 'Volleyball Ramada' at Steele Indian School Park from 8am-1pm. It's a covered ramada with picnic tables (3 or so,) next to the Volley ball court, children's playground and Basketball court. For those familiar with the park, it's in the uppermost NW corner, right behind the manager's station and bathrooms (not bad, eh?).

For those not familiar with Steele Indian School Park, I encourage you to come and explore this wonderful place. It has something for just about everyone; the sports facilities I mentioned, a small lake and fountain with a great view of Camelback, a historical recounting of the Indian school's history in Phoenix, a large, contemplative garden (one of the best designed and meantingful gardens I've ever seen) and three soon-to-be-restored historic buildings - the dining hall, the auditorium and the band hall of the original school. It's very centrally located and easily reached from I-10 or the 51.

There are at least 3 parking lots and two separate entrances. The easiest one to access our ramada is the entrance coming off of Central avenue on the east side of the street, just north of of the Central/ Indian School intersection. The road dead-ends where you should park.

More later as we firm things up, but right now I have an approximate count of 24 people, one batch of brownies and one batch of banana bread, three offers of help in organizing. I'll bring freshly ground and brewed coffee, cups, half 'n half, sugar & sweet 'n low ... if there's anything else you like in coffee, let me know or bring it along.

PC, if all else fails you could always get a job in the dipolomatic corps. :)

If people need rides I would be happy to organize car pools. If you are willing to drive or need a ride, please email me and we'll hook you up.

Do we need to coordinate tarps, card tables etc. or is it everyone for themselves?

What else do we need to do? It looks like PC already took care of the hard part. I am very excited about the location. Great idea.

What a great job PC! I am looking forward to Oct. 1st. Put me down to bring at least 2 folding tables, and a pop up. I will be happy to help out in any way possible to organize this event. Thanks again!

Lucky California people! I agree with you, Molineux, 75-80 is pretty cool. But I would be very happy if I can have no more than 90 F in summer.... Mediterranean sea is very different from Ocean. Here, we have temperatures over 30Â°C (86 F) from early may. In june, the common range is average 35Â°C, and can easily reach 38-40 Â°C (100-104 F)in july, since half august. In these conditions, roses go dormant for summer heat, flowers in Chinas are small and insignificant, and occasional flowers on many others varieties burns quickly under the sun. So, it's better to wait the autumn. To come back on topic, I've seen Duchesse d'Auerstaedt growing as a short climber on a pillar, and also, not far from the first, as a freestanding shrub. It's a very delightful rose, beautifully shaped and coloured flowers, very fragrant, and a foliage that... WOW! I've ordered one plant for my garden. I will grow her on an wooden tripod, near 'Teasing Georgia', 'Clg Sombreuil' and 'Golden Celebration'... Ciao! Maurizio

Hmm, I miss a day or two, I miss a LOT here, ladies! I've been running a lot, distracted, and just plain scatterbrained. Must be spring fever (at least, I'd rather blame that than a mid-life crisis, lol!). I have most of Debbya's box ready to go - I just want to do one more thing, then send it on its way. It's been fun learning about your names and their history. My first name has NOTHING to do with my family heritage - my parents just liked it. My middle name, Marie, is for my mother, Mary. My daughter's first name is Juliana, for the medieval Christian mystic Juliana of Norwich. Her middle name is Pearl, for my grandmother, who died years ago. Our son's name is Ian (Scottish for John - his grandfather, great uncle, and uncle-in-law are all John/Jon, and his father is Sean, the Irish form of John). His middle name is Joseph, for one of my favorite men in the Bible. Oh, how we debated about Ian's name! He's our first, and my mother was pestering us mightily about what names we were considering. So, we had an ugly name contest, and kept telling her all sorts of outrageous choices. Keep in mind, our last name is RUDD. So, Dudley Bud Rudd, Elmer Rudd, Evan Rudd (think Evinrude motors), Vladimir Rudd (just because), etc. etc. AND, we couldn't use any names that started with C or K, because that would make his abbreviated name C. Rudd. CRUD. That cancelled out all sorts of names we happened to like, for both kids, lol! My favorite outdoors tool is definitely bypass pruning shears. Indoors, I have to say that I really MISS my dustbuster. It recently croaked after years of faithful service, and NOW I realize just how much I used it to clean up after the kids, birds, and cats. Judith, still not up to par with the "teacher's" (that's you, in case you wondered!), but I do think I'm improving. ;o) You know these oranges and browns really don't "go" with my normal decor (example: see the pic above the mantle) but guess I am just going to ignore that and enjoy the season! LOL Kathleen, good to hear from you. I know you have been really busy. Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad I went back for the cloche too--it worked out good in that vignette. I've been working the last three days, have some pics of the store that I plan to post for you guys to see--soon, but probably not tonight. I've got to get to work on my plates, haven't started even started them yet. Just using what I bought last year, so no big deal--but I really like them and they look so sparkly and pretty. So glad Judith turned us on to making them. Patricia, this is a small but very friendly group. None of us take it too seriously, in fact we joke around quite a lot. We all feel that we are "learning" to make pretty decorations and arrangements for our homes. Hope you will have fun with us. Luvs

I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. I can keep track of tables, chairs, tarps, etc. if people let me know what they are bringing. Since people are coming from far away (yay Tucson!) it would be nice if we had extra places to sit.

Oh cool! I'm gonna try and be there. Unfortunately I have to work that night, but I just decided that i'm going to try to get out of it. They take me for granted anyway.

What's wrong with salsa for breakfast? Oh no, now I have to go get some huevos rancheros... but I'll bring some salsa and something to scoop them up with.

ok... I'm usually this slow, but what exactly are you guys doing... is this a plant exchange or something or just a fun get together, and who is invited?? (not wanting to be pushy and invite myself)...

What we're doing isn't entirely clear, but you're invited! It's sure to be fun and in addition to coffee, banana bread and salsa (doesn't that sound like a yummy combination?!), we'll exchange some plants, seeds and who knows what else. Be sure to RSVP.

Just reading about this after being gone for 2 months. Please add my name (& husband's) God willing and if the creek don't rise (surely monsoon will be over by then). :-)

I had a lot of things crisp this summer, but do have many Murphy's pups, some assorted seed, and 1 gallon black pots. And maybe cookies, if anyone would eat cookies for breakfast...

All,

I am so excited. This is will be first meeting/exchange that i am attending. I plan on being there and i will bring some indian food (rice cakes and peanut chutney) for the party. Can someone give me a ride though, i live in the east valley (Chandler and Rural).

Could I make a suggestion? Why not start a whole new thread with "RSVP to Garden Party Oct. 1, 8 to 1" in the subject line. Condense the rest of the info in the message. We're close enough to the date to keep it onscreen with replies and far enough out to give people time to plan. Everyone could RSVP to that one and you wonderful planners would have a better idea of how many people to expect.
