Plumerias without a scent?

Saw a bunch of Plumerias at HDepot the other day. They were in pots in a sort of lava rock gravel. The branches looked thicker and heavier than I am used to seeing on plumies. Amazingly enough they were flowering, but the weird thing is that the flowers had no scent whatsoever. Has anyone seen this before?

Yes, some plumeria do not have fragrance.

My night blooming jasmine is also without scent. It's four years old and only once in that time has it performed with its legendary deliciousness. Only when I stick my nose in the blossoms can I catch the faintest hint of aroma. With that said, the only thing this plant produces is exasperation. I've spent hours online for remedies which afforded many speculations, which include that my nose isn't working, but absolutely no solutions. There has to be someone out there who knows if there's a soil additive, special fertilizer, piped in music, voodoo chants or special prayer that will entice this robust, blooming, healthy plant to exude its famous fragrance.

konatiki, LOL! Fortunately MY woman (my wife) is not fickle, is very considerate, caring, intelligent, and very loving and I appreciate her so much!! Anyway, artic, is this a seedling or a rooted cutting? Sometimes seedlings will put up a 'false inflo' which has no buds, but will branch. But the fact that yours had two branches already tells me it was likely a rooted cutting? If so, then I cannot explain it other than it didn't have the reserves to actually bloom yet.

I've done this with great success! When you have a "leggy" trunk or some top heavy branches, as long as you have 8-14” for each section, they will do fine. Just remember which end is up in your center cut, (smiles not frowns in your leaf scars is a good indicator) and dip your healed cut in rooting hormone before planting. Did you know if you don't have rooting hormone you can also use honey or ground cinnamon? They act the same way as they are antimicrobial.

The Scottsdale Pavilions, in the house plant area. I was surprised how much they were blooming. Mine usually start blooming at the beginning of Summer and hold the bouquet for 3 months or so. They must have used hormones to get them to bloom that much, because they had inflows popping out all over the place. It seemed out of the ordinary. The flowers were purplish red, and the leaves were very long and thin. What was most unusual was how dark of a gray the bark was. Haven't seen that variety before. I'll have to admit, I was back again yesterday and one of the newer flowers did smell. It was very faint though. They are selling them for 25, which I think is a bit much for an unamed cultivar.

Well, I have one at home that is blooming right now and it smells the first few days but then the last few (or however many, it blooms so long) there really is no scent at all... and I agree that is a bit much for an unnamed, unscented cultivar :)

is the house plant area inside or out? $25 is actually not too much to ask for an unknown variety. sometimes nurseries make up their own names for a known cultivar. kinda crazy but it happens. you might end up with a jewel.

i visited a home in the west valley. the couple bought a generic yellow that turned out to be aztec gold. eight years later, the plumeria is over 8' tall and bloomin' its head off. fresh peach fragrance around the tree.

I have nothing against unknowns... I own one I bought at Lowe's... still hasn't flowered yet so I have no idea... but I didn't pay $25 for it... I just don't have $25 I guess :)...
