A few questions??......

So after having life get severely in the way, losing a good portion of my WS babies to neglect and pests, and my seed project coming to a screeching halt, I am finally trying to get back into the swing of things.

A few questions for now:

Are there any suggestions for perennials to summer sow now that might possibly bloom before winter?

Are there any suggestions for reseeding annuals that might bloom before winter?

And a list of flowers that will put forth a second flush of flowers after being cut back? (most especially curious about osteospermum and mesembryanthemum)

So I will be waiting to hear from you about those things and in the mean time, I will continue to try to get myself back on track garden and seed project wise!

I was just thinking of you! It was one of those moments when you think of people who posted all the time and then just stopped. I was wondering about your seed project. I'm sorry to hear you ran into some difficulties, but I'm glad you are back.

I think natural light is always best, but I have artificial lights because of my low light situation where I live now. If you are going to use artificial lights, there are certain types of bulbs you need for growth. THere is a forum here you can go to to read up and ask, but I think basically you need a combination of warm and cool bulbs, which is what I installed. One thing you have to notice on some of the "plant lights" you see for sale - tubes and especially bulbs and spotlights...if you read the fine print, you will read that they are not GROW lights, but spotlights that are meant for decorative reasons, like highlighting a plant in a corner or something like that. So read up on them before you buy. Some of them are no different than a regular light bulb when it comes to promoting growth.

a few questions - including another tub with shower question

Only can answer a few of your questions: I've always had curtains with tub/shower combos. The trick is to seal the curtain edges to the tile/tub. This is best done with a thinner liner (a heavy one can be used, but might want to put a shampoo bottle on it to keep it there). Start the shower and point the head away from the open edges. Get in and by this time the tile will be a little moist. Run your wet hand along the back of the liner and stick it to the tile, tracing it down and over the inside corner of the tub. Never a water problem in 20 years. Had to train my DH how to do it when I married him though. We've had pocket doors with latches on the inside only. You can find the hardware at any home depot or lowes in the replacement door and window hardware areas for closets, patio sliders, casement windows, etc and install them yourself.

Your description makes me very nervous. What’s the point of hiring someone to do the work if you’re doing all the heavy lifting? We had a small kitchen remodel - double height island cut down To countertop height with some bath updates included. Involved demo, haul away, new supplies etc. we hired a company which specializes in remodel. Our contract spelled out the scope of work & who was providing what& itemized the costs & Payment schedule & terms. We were given a list of his preferred vendors to visit to choose tile & countertops & new sink. We had choice to use them or anyone else we wanted. The supply items were delivered or brought to site by subs. He hired &paid subs which were plumber & electrician, tile setter. There was an on site project manager who was here whenever a sub was here. The carpenter who did the work on our island which is wood wrapped, is his employee. I think you need to review whatever you signed to understand what you agreed to. BTW, our contract also specified face masks by all 100% of the time.

That is what I was wondering. I wonder how many installers are doing this as opposed to just butting the ends up to the header piece? Also, the way the transition is set up I would have to put the header down first as I would not have enough room to put it in with the grove still attached. So then I am sliding the pieces in? In this scenario I would be routing a grove in to the length wise pieces, the header would have the tongue. Is it common place to rip down the header piece to take the grooved side off, or is it purely aesthetics as to how wide you want the header piece to be? Thanks a lot for your help

Thanks Remy! AS far as the seed project goes, I have quite a few results recorded on paper, but I also have several kinds that I have to retest because when life hit the fan, those poor seeds went to mildewsville. Still am hoping to have a whole bunch of info uploaded onto the Project Webpage within the next week or two.

And anyone have any good ideas for annuals that will rebloom after being cut back? I know petunias will....but what else?

Plus DH will be ripping out in the morning - cornflower black ball, clarkia, and something else that took a dose of steroids when I wasn't looking and grew a gazillion feet tall where they weren't supposed to. So now I also will have some big holes to fill! UUGGHHH!!!

Welcome back! Dahlias and Rudbeckia hirta are fast to bloom from seed, but I'm not sure you can count them as perennials. Pansies, too, and they'll overwinter if that counts.

I think Sweet Alyssum and snapdragons would be good late annuals for the fall since they seem to really like spring weather.
