I am getting 2 musa basjoo's soon and only want one, so I want to trade the other one for a California Gold banana tree. The basjoo will be rooted plant, hoping the trade would be for the same or bigger.

Just my two cents: I don't want to imply that this eBay seller doesn't have what he's claiming to sell. But if you wanted to be absolutely certain that you were getting the genuine California Gold variety, I would only purchase it online directly from Jeff Earl. The fact that this seller is linking to one of Jeff's videos puts a red flag up for me. Gabe would be an excellent choice as well. Bruce C.

Usually if you are closer to the Bay, the harder it is for bananas to bloom. The cooler year round area prevents the blooming and often the banana chokes out. Although bananas do not suffer frost damages, there is simply no bloom in most cases, this is the major complaint of banana growers aroung the vicinity of the cooler areas in the SF Bay. The farther you are from the influence of the sea temperature, the better are your chances. If you live more inland, or farther away like San Jose, Gilroy, south facing hilly portions of Fremont, Antioch, you will have more consistent fruit production. The only proven one that has consistently produced even in the cooler Bay Area is the California Gold. You may have good microclimate that is warmer and perhaps other bananas would be bear fruits. Here are the other bets aside from California Gold: Raja Puri, Misi Luki, Ice Cream, Brazilian (dwarf and regular), Namwah (dwarf, regular and pearl), Orinoco (dwarf and regular), Goldfinger, Mysore, Rhinohorn. These are the varieties that you would look for. There are more, but they would require really warm soil temperature to bloom.

Hi, The heater is 1500W heater but tand they have a thermostat and three power settings. I think there is a heating element at the top and bottom so you can select one or the other or both. I think the poly is 7mils and only one sheet. There is a difference of about 16F unheated from inside and outside and I put the portable heater in when we had a 6F night and the bananas froze. I think it got below 25F that day. I've had the heater on since. If it is 40F outside it can get into the high 70's on a clear sunny day. I plan on putting the citrus on heated benchs and inproving the insulation and experimenting with some solar collectors. I could put poly panels inside to I guess.
