New Growth on A. Karr propagation

Scott Wallace

I have never been successful in propagating any Multiplex variety using single or double node cuttings. Two years ago I did some experimentation using whole culm cuttings of my Multiplex Silverstripe and it appeared to be successful. However, I moved and never got to see the final results.

One day while at work I noted that the landscapers had thinned some Alphonse Karr and had a few culms in the bed of the truck. I helped myself to two of them and my brother buried them the next day for me while I slept (I work nights). He left about a foot or so of the top out of the ground as I told him to leave some branching exposed.

So here it is somewhere about six or eight weeks later and there is new growth present on the exposed portion. My hopes is that this shows it is rooting, but I will not know for certain until I see new shoots popping up.
