Need advice - my papilio bulb won't grow

Hello,

hopefully someone on this forum can help. When I purchased a nice, fat papilio bulb last fall, I treated it exactly as required, and the bulb quickly put out three nice leaves. And that was all it did until recently when the leaves started dying off in the manner of amaryllis going dormant. As far as I can tell the bulb isn't rotten or diseased. The part above the soil is nice and firm, just free of leaves or flowerstalks.

The plant has been in the same position (inside, close to south window with good light) and I keep it fairly dry.

Is this odd behavior normal for a papilio? Is there some part of its culture I've neglected? What should I do to get this bulb to thrive?

TIA!
