Very interesting sight, I had dove's nest in my 8" Dischidia hanging pot. Very successful with the babies but end up killing my dischidia.

Doves, wow - and they're pretty big too I think. I'm hoping the nest and babies-to-be don't kill my bulbs - but if it does I'm glad it's only my Red Lions.

I don't think your Amaryllis will be harmed. Just take care not to spray water into the nest when watering.

What a great suprise! That is so sweet Alana! I can't wait to see them grow up and jump out of that pot...haha!

I have a similar nest in my huge Nymph's pot. Hope a snake doesn't get them!!

Update on the eggs... they're little chirping babies now. I can hear them but I can't get close enough to see them because (what I presume to be) the male bird keeps fussing at me when I even step out on the deck. He better get over that real soon - I'm not finding a new place to drink coffee ;-) I'll try to snap a picture. The mom and dad are so cute out collecting food and bringing it back. They've got their little routes established to and from the garden to go hunting for worms or bugs. It's pretty funny that he has to sleep outside the nest now - he sleeps curled around the Red Lion bulb up against the pot edge. I'm glad they're enjoying that bulb as much as I did last winter. I bet that's so much fun to watch, Alana. And I know what you mean about Papa being so protective of the nest. I've had birds in my garden attack my cats to keep them away from the nest. Of course Papa doesn't realize my cats don't have claws so they've got no way to get up in the tree.... hehe

Lucky you....like all the other times, the nest is now empty. Another snake no doubt. AND to make matters 10x worse, she build the nest on my HUGE Nymph bulb (my all time fav) and now the bulb is shriveled and weak. Not enough water or ???

Keep the babies happy and healthy. I wish for once a nest would be in a spot that a snake couldn't get them, but nature has its way.

I'm sorry to hear that, Kristi, but I suppose the snakes have to eat, too. Its nature taking care of nature, as much as we don't like it.

Well here's final update from me on this topic - the babies grew up and left the nest... as did mom and dad. Last night we watched as the new little ones (looked like there were two but hard to really tell since we couldn't get too close) hopped around in the planter while the dad flew dinner in. And sure enough this morning all was quiet. No dad bird squawking from the railing like yesterday (see picture) or mom bird peering out from the next. Just a couple of broken egg shells left. Empty nest syndrome - again :-( Alana

No - that was Kristi's that got eaten by the snake. Mine were up here on the deck where nothing but my dog could get to them!

Ryan...Her's are fine, MINE get 'et! Other a brighter note, my parakeet laid an egg yesterday in her next box. Since Lyle is in the same cage, am guessing a baby's on the way!
