what to do when oleander trunk snaps

Hello all,

I have a yellow oleander tree that was planted about 10 months ago. It was doing well and hand a nice lollipop shape.

While we were on vacation, there was a windy monsoon. The end result is that my tree is bent over and the trunk is half-snapped. The 3-guy-wire system failed and so there was a weak side where the tree fell.

See pic:

The trunk is half-snapped about 2/3 of the way up and below almost all of the foliage. There are little shoots coming out the lower part of the trunk.

The tree had been doing quite well up to that point so I think the roots are good.

I am wondering what the best move is?

1. Remove the tree and start over

2. Remove the top of the tree and see if the new shoots will grow

3. Stand the tree up again, prune it, tape it up and see if the trunk will "heal"

Thanks,

Dave ...
