What kind did you sow?
I sowed Monarda citroidora. One germinated and is about a foot tall and blooming. :-) I planted it out last weekend. :-)

My Monarda fistulosa (Wild Bee Balm/Bergamot)didn't bloom until year 2 on 5' plants.
Pit, the cuttings of your 'Garden Scarlet' are just ready to pop open some blooms!! Monarda citriodora (Horsemint/ Lemon Beebalm) has always been annual for me...once in awhile it pops up in my Prairie bed. Not a lover of much water and prefers dry rocky areas. It can be biennial though.

I also have one plant of Wild Bergamot (Monarda Fistulosa), at least I hope that's what it is. It is also quite small ... probably 3 or 4 inches tall ... very slow growing. Supposedly, perennials do grow really slowly the first year, so I'm not expecting much from it this year.

Mine is still in a pot, as I'm scared to plant it out yet. I probably will at the end of summer or beginning of fall. It's the only one I got to germinate, so I'm very protective of it. I'm hoping for blooms next year, also hoping to make some tea with it, as I'm a big hot tea fan. It probably won't taste much like the bergamot in Earl Grey tea, but I'm still anxious to try it.

I sowed Monarda fistulosa this year. After planting out, the snails promptly ate 4 of the 6 HOS, but the 2 that remain are doing well. Although they surely won't bloom this year, they are about 10 inches tall and I'll bet they'll be double that by fall.

The Lemon Bee Balm (Monarda citroidora ?) that I WS this year is about 2' tall and in full bloom. My other varieties were started a year ago and are doing very well this season, especially the pink one.

My Jacob Cline is pitiful. I'm still planting out (stop laughing), and got these in the ground yesterday. Not more than an inch tall, but I have high hopes for them.

Last year's plantings have taken off considerably (one trivial purchased plant in a pint-container is now a 3' x 3' clump). I'm loving them, but will have to keep them in check, I do know that much!

Mmqchdygg I'm definitely not laughing at you because I'm still planting out WS seedlings too!

M. fistulosa tea btw is very calming....I call it 'Happy Tea'; you will feel QUITE relaxed I assure you LOL!

I don't think I had much growth the first year and the blooms were tiny.
But the second year of having it in my yard, it went crazy. I pulled up several clumps and wound up tossing them away, just because I couldn't find places for them. Now, there's more growing in one spot that I pulled it up last year!

It smells very nice and the bees absolutely go crazy over it. Mine is just starting to bloom now.

I have had to oversee it as far as mildew. That's one reason I pulled it up in other places in my yard. I need to have access to its legs to cut out pieces and burn them-- without getting a bee caught in my hair.

Vera, are you sure this tea is legal? ;)
