These dianthus were ws 2 winters ago. Light bloom last year. I cut some back to get another flush of bloom.

Very pretty - I keep ordering all the different pinks, cheddar pinks and dianthus as I see them listed - can't get enough of them. We are fortunate to get a really long bloom season out of them down here - one full flush and then sporadic but still good for 10 months or more - thanks for sharing yours......

You Dianthus isn’t dying. Those are the spent blossoms. The plant just needs to be “dead headed” - snip or pinch off the flowers that have turned brown.

With that type I wait until they are mostly done and just shear it like grass. They look funny for a week but then it looks fine.

Full sun and very well drained soils. Light shade in afternoon is fine. Don't be overly concerned about soil pH unless yours tests lower than 6.0 - if so, add some lime to raise to a suitable level. While it hates soggy soils, dianthus is not overly drought tolerant and would appreciate a good soak in hot, dry weather.

Well if you're happy with your results this year I think that you'll be even more happy next year because my Dianthus has gotten stronger every year and this my 3rd year with them was great.
My 1st year they did awful, I think it was too hot for them. Well I didn't plan on trying again but the Dianthus had a different plan and came back really strong so I went out and bought some more of the same color. Well the one's that I bought hung around all year and the ones that came back kind of went to pot???
This year boom there they were again but probably twice as many of them and boy that 1st bloom was fantastic. I've since dead headed all of them and they are still going strong so hopefully this will be the year they finally get really established because I love the plant. Oh and don't forget the fantastic smell I'm not sure what the exact name of mine are but they do have a really wonderful fragrance.

I can't get enough of dianthus too. I sow them every year, and every year the clumps just get bigger and bigger. I had some Rainbow Lovelinesss bloom for the first time this year too. I had some pink and some white.

Unfortunately this year we hired a landscaping company to do our spring cleanup, and they came through my patio with their industrial-strength blowers, and blew grass seed into all my winter sown containers. I now have just as much grass growing in my dianthus containers as I do dianthus.

Maybe this week I'll bring some of the containers into the house (where it's air-conditioned) and see if I can tease the grass out of them and pot them up. Maybe plant them out in the fall.
