Is that the same as a "cup and saucer" plant?

Cup and saucer is Cobaea scandens, cup of gold is Solandra maxima. It has huge golden flared cups on the vine.

Just looked it up. The blooms look like they get HUGE on it. Very interesting plant! I'm not buying any more plants, I'm not buying any more....

I have cup of gold vine. I took cuttings from my neighbor and after they rooted I put one on my fence. It is doing very well. They can be trimmed as a bush also. But yes......plant it. It is also known as Solandra Maxima or Chilace Vine. Hope this helps you. I do have one for trade that is rooted if anyone interested.

I also have one and it's probably 60 feet long (had it around 15 years). Has about 100 flower buds right now and should bloom in a couple more weeks. Great for fences and walls (has to be tied).

I have a cup of gold that is growing in my front yard for 10 years and it survived cold, heat and my husband's three time a year "let's try to see if it will come back after I chop it" cycles.
It gets a couple of hours of sun in the morning and it thrives despite of my husband's involvement.
I have 2 rooted cuttings for trade in March if anybody is interested.

I'm in zone 10/SD too. I want to plant a solandra maxima along
my fence, a top a hillside. However, the fence gets a lot of hot sun during the day and it's guite dry. I'm inland, so it's dry and windy too. It's a chain link fence, would I still have to tie it? Also, how much watering/fertilizing do you do?
I may have to find a different vine for this location, if it's too dry and hot for a solandra.

For hot and dry you might look into queen's wreath. Just an idea.

Prior to growing in Rodica's garden for 10 years - that cup of gold was growing in my front graden for 10 years!

East facing, lots of shade (early morning sun only) started winding its way along across the underside of eave of the house - it was HUGE! Moved up north, Rodica got cuttings and now I am back down here and she gave me cuttings - and we're off again!

All started from a cutting given to me by a little old woman in San Diego whose garden I stopped to admire 25 years ago! She had her whole backyard under lattice with this vine growing over, under around and through!
