Some of them are also a lot taller than the original F1 seed. Last year they grew to about 4.5 feet and were loaded with burgundy blooms. The stalk of this one is way stockier too. Sure hope to see a few of the solid burgundy...that was an awesome combo with the Larkspur 'Earl Gray'!
This spring I had at least 40 volunteers from only 2 plants which is shocking because I also harvested and made about 20 2.5 x 4.5" (full) baggies for trade :O
Did I send you any? If not you'll be getting some this time around anyways LOL!

Wow, gorgeous! Nicely done :) I love the two-toned petals.

I have some Solar Eclipse F1 that are supposed to have two-toned petals. I also have some Taiyo which are supposed to be a more classic yellow with brown centers. If I get any volunteers, I guess I could end up with something interesting next year.

I put mine in the ground a little late, but they're nowhere near that one. I am now able to see where the flowers are going to appear, just tiny centers right now, but at least they're on their way.

Don't you have some other varieties as well? I seem to remember some in the some other pictures you've posted.

Yes, actually this year I do have three different sunflowers...the Moulin Rouge, Mammoth and one which was only labeled as dwarf yellow sunflower to 3'. I have about 10 Mammoth out there, but the only giant so far was just over 6' a few days ago and is now about 7 and still no sign of a head! YIKES!!!

I got a reseeder of one of those in your picture too! I'm trying to figure out which one it is, and I think it might be "Red Sun". I didn't WS any Mammoth last year.

Funny thing is, it's in an area that gets part shade in the afternoon and evening. I didn't think it would like being there, but I left it alone. Now it's the biggest sunflower in the yard. The rest of them are puny.

It's facing East...I don't know if that has anything to do with why it's so happy. The bed in front of it faces South and gets sun all day.

Iblack some of my biggest self-sown sunflowers were on the east side of the house last year...but then again they were growing on the edge of the compost pile LOL!

They are like beautiful pieces of art! I had two branching yellows volunteer in a shade bed. They are doing fine. I want to grow dwarf sunnies next year in my veggie bed. I had one really cool one volunteer out by the street for me a few years back.
