Hi Colleen! Did you know that there is a Moon Garden Forum? You could check there for some plant ideas and then determine what size containers might be right for them. In general, the "moon garden" doesn't have to be restricted to flowering plants and can include foliage plants that "light up" or stand out in the garden at night. Also since a number of plants have flowers that close up at night, you want to look for plants that keep their flowers open overnight. White is a popular color for selection of night flowers in any case. I have grown moon flower vines in small containers in the past (Ipomea alba) and they would start blooming about 4 pm (based on my NE-facing balcony) and would stay open all night, closing up by around sunrise. I remember years ago when one of my sisters was in an apartment with a balcony, she grew some white Nicotiana and they appeared to "glow" at night. I understand that summer phlox (Phlox paniculata), particularly a white blooming one, is good for moon gardens. I have a red phlox that should hopefully bloom this year and I'll see later this summer how that goes.

Thanks so much for thinking of me! I feel terrible that's I've been missing lately. I just can't seem to get my act together to post or answer emails. Got myself into a royal funk on Father's Day and it escalated into a full blown depression. I'm okay now, other than being more or less in Zombie Mode and wanting to do nothing at all. Of course the wicked heat last week, 118 at the worst of it, didn't improve my mood. I love, and NEED, to be outside and get moody when I can't. My summers are so like many of yours during the winter, so am sure you can understand how sick of staying inside you get. Dad's birthday is the end of the month but I don't think that will be near as hard as Father's Day. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be another matter I'm afraid. I've got a lot of posts to catch up on here, and see what you've been up to. I really am sorry that I've finked out on you lately. I'll get back to posting decently tho. It really means a lot to have you guys care so much and I wish I could give all of you REAL hugs! It was quite the monster duststorm....biggest anyone can remember! A MILE HIGH wall of dust, 100 miles long. So it covered the entire Valley and no town in and around Phoenix was spared. There were.no problems for me, thankfully, tho when I looked out my kitchen window at 7 pm, I couldn't even see my backyard cause the dust was so thick. The wind was fierce, 50-60 mph. Lots of others not so lucky with downed power lines, trees, and accidents on roads. All the 10 pm news footage was pretty amazing to see. Since I am the city clerk he has been going around telling every one I am doing things all wrong and illegal yada yada yada. This is a tiny town and there are many that will listen to him as I am not a favorite around town after stopping a good old boy ring of old town rulers that were dipping from the city coffers. This is pretty much a bass ackwards kind of tiny town.Gives real meaning to red neck. The stress he has been causing me is of constantly having to prove what he is saying about me is not true.Frustration because I should not be having to deal with this crap. I work so hard for this little city. With my careful watch I brought this town in 15K under budget this year in the general fund. Considering the budget was ruffly 59K I did very well handling the tax payers dollars!!! Not me actually I do not run the city. BUT I kept the council appraised on where they stood at every decision financially. Before me they were running amuck. I could go on for hours on the waste before I came on scene. Needless to say bad boys are not happy I have lightened their and their relatives personal pockets. Any way all of this started another psoriasis flair up for me. I have not brought it under control yet. It is very painful with hands and feet splitting and bleeding at the drop of a hat. Sunday my hands were clear of splits. Yesterday I had 16 new bloody splits on fingers and palms. And I did not do this with my mosaics on the hoosier Sunday.See gadget thread on the other side here. Hoping now the election is over and bad boy lost and the rest of my council but one are great the next couple of years will mellow out. Sorry for the rant. I am still pretty wound up.
