Patrick, your pictures are always a pleasure to see! =) I noticed that you've done a lot of yellow, orange, papilio, and red crosses. Have you ever ventured with pink or white? Whatever color you've crossed though, everything has looked beautiful and unique in their own special ways. TFS! =)

On a side note: Growing 'Amaryllis' has been only a segment of my gardening hobby, and I try to do, what I do, well. I don't have any white amaryllis except 'Amputo' that resists blooming. My only pink is 'Candy Floss'. I no longer grow any doubles. You may see postings by me in the Plumeria page, fern page, bromeliad page and others.

Strangely enough, HoustonPat, I have an Amputo that won't give up any flowers, either... and it's my only white flowered bulb so far. I should have had two White Dazzlers, but one turned out to be a Red Lion, and the other never bloomed. If you figure out the secret to Amputo, please let me know; I'm really interested to see what it looks like in person! I'll try anything at this point!

"Jaguar" is without doubt one of the most valuable hybrids with H.papilio. It is attributed to produce an umbel of upto 8 flowers (Veronica, p. 96) - did anyone experience that? Regrettably, it is, like "Ambiance", another Papilio hybrid, a chamaeleon and its appearance varies considerably.

Pat, I think nobody would guess that your creation was generated out of Red Lion parentage. It is a veritable treasure to behold, and I would be interested whether it is capble of producing seeds after self pollination. Upon a superficial view it could be taken for a sophisticated cybister hybrid for its general appearance, particularly those narrow segments, but a closer view on the shape of the lower segments reveals that it cannot be.

These pictures are just breathtaking! Thanks for sharing. Chico is one of my most favorite. Actually, they are all my favorite, but my eyes keep getting drawn to Chico, which is now on its second scape. So anything with that style is just great.

No! (As regards the presumed parental background of "Chico")

"Chico" and "Reggae" should both be selections out of the true Hippeastrum species cybister

Sprekelia is a member of the american branch of Amaryllids the Hippeastreae but within this group it is more closely related to the genera Zephyranthes, Habranthus and Rhodophiala.

The flowers of Sprekelia (two species afaik) and Hippeastrum cybister - and also H.angustifolium (as far as I can conclude from the poor pictures I perceived elsewhere) -
share the special feature that the lower segments on the left and right side are bent in a particular manner to form a kind of sheath at their basis which covers the first part of the filaments.
This feature does not indicate a closer relationship; it is simply the result of a convergent historic development (Biologically assigned, who would guess that, a "convergence")

The historic and genetic world of plants can be a confusing one! It's easy to see how the relationships between certain plants can be mistaken... Sprekelia does share certain characteristics with other flowers...
