The Poppies have been there from my 1st year WSing. the Lupine were WS sometime around then too-- but these might be reseeds rather than the first true plant(?)

Oh linda, you have really outdone yourself this year!

Those lupines are absolutely breathtaking - I can never grow them... and all of your flowers look wonderful. I was eagerly awaiting your photos this year - and they are really beautiful.

Marg - They all look great! It sounds like Ivory Dawn changed color for the better. On Kissed Off, I guess it depends on whether you like pink or red better. I have a Moldovan bicolor, Tyrolean Treasure, that is supposed to be rose pink and cream, but it's rosy red and cream here. Thanks to all for replying. I just wanted to say a few things about the new well. Right now it is supposed to run all night--can you believe it? My husband and I are appalled seeing all that water run out on the ground. He is trying to move the water hose around a little bit to put it on some of our plants but it is very stiff and difficult to handle. The well people say be careful, don't get a kink in the hose, but we think it would take Hercules to bend that hose. DH must also put water in a jug periodically so it can be tested. I know he will do one tonight, don't know how many times it must be done tomorrow. We weren't happy that we had to go so deep to strike water, but we look upon this as an investment if we ever have to sell the house, it should increase the value. Our plan is to die here so we never have to worry about it--just hope it works out this way about 20-30 years from now. We do not have any backup batteries in case the power goes out. The solar sounds like a good idea, but can't afford to put any more money into this right now, will look into it in the future. Silverkelt, Jellyroll Truffle is a pretty flower when it doubles, but I think there are others out there better than this. I think our best double here is Dublin Elaine and it is putting up a new scape right now. (I'm including a picture I took last year). Congratulations Grandma!! He is just beautiful. I hope you have skype or some way of visually keeping in touch until your Nov. visit. I know how hard it was for me to wait to meet my 1st DGS when he was born in Fla. 13 yrs ago!! I had to wait for 2 weeks and I was practically crawling out of my skin!!! Fortunately for me, all of my 5 DGK's now live in the metro area, and 1 of DH's lives here. Unfortunately, 4 of his DGK's are in San Diego and we are lucky if we see them once a year. It is so hard when they are far away! You have every right to be proud and excited. GK's are just the best! Thank goodness for modern technology and pictures that can be seen on Facebook, phones, skype, and any other high tech gadgets that transmit photos electronically! Dylan is already going to be 1 on Aug. 22!! Where did that year go??? She is getting such a cute personality! I hope you get to enjoy lots of visits with Joshua because time just goes by so fast! It's a much better year (gardening included) for me this year. It's nice how the beds are filling out with the perennials I WSed in past years. They're almost getting "self-sustainable".

Your welcome! It's proof that WSing can make a gardener out of a brown thumb. The only things in those photos that weren't WSed were the Dianthus and the Irises.

Your flowers are really nice! BTW what is the tall leafy plant behind the verbascum? I like how it looks kind of tropical.

Is your Verbascum 'Southern Charm'? I love the color of yours! Mine has too many lavender colored blooms, and not enough of that peachy color yours has.

I also love those poppies! Mine are red, but I like the orange red of yours even better.

This year, I wintersowed Lupine 'Gallery Mix' that I got from Valueseeds, and I can't wait to see them bloom to find out which colors I end up with. Did yours bloom the 2nd year?

How lovely, Linda. I love the Lupines. Is this their first year? I have a few seedlings and maybe I should get them in the ground but everything here is so wet and cold. And the Verbascum are very beautiful too. That pink painted daisy is to die for, but I love any daisy like flower and that pink is perfect. Thanks for sharing.

It is nice to go outside and see lots of color...the poppies and that Lupine in the front are really performing better than they ever have, which makes me feel so good! :-)

The plant behind the Verbascum is Monkshood. This will be its 3rd year. It put out some nice blooms last year, so I expect it's really going to do well this year. I'm hoping it fills in the gap that's in that area (or else I'll have to plant something next to it).

Yep, that is "Southern Charm". I love it. I did sow some yellow ones last year, but I don't know if they made it. I also sowed some Phoenician HBs this year (but I can't remember where I put them or if I even transplanted them yet). I really like this one, though. It's been a very reliable bloomer.
My Lupine actually bloomed the first year. They were much shorter and they bloomed in late Summer. It is exciting to see what colors come up. I actually WS Lupine every year so that whatever decides to conk out always has a replacement.
I think I did those VS ones this year too.

Even though it's still cool here, the rain they predict seems to hit north of us or south of us, so that we get the rain only some of the time they predict it (which has been good, because when it does rain, it rains HARD and LONG). So I think that's what's saved the garden this year. I think the Painted Daisies are supposed to be gone by now, and they seem like they aren't even thinking about leaving yet.
I still have a lot of things to transplant into the patio garden and a bed on the side of the house. So I'm still not "jug-free".

I do have a dwarf kind, Lulu Regalis Dwarf that grows to about two feet. I also WSed another dwarf version, Lupine "Minarette Mix".
(I love Lupine. It reminds me of "The Wizard of Oz"...I don't know why). They have a great scent too (although I haven't had the heart to cut any of them to bring indoors this year).
