Have you contacted the source to notify them of their error BEFORE giving them bad publicity on the internet? I've heard nothing but good things about this seller and how he/she is very quick to correct mistakes. Too often people could peaceably resolve things like this with a little correspondence.

On a side note, it is a very nice-looking ensete ventricosum.

I tried contacting them by email several times when the plant was small. They assured me the plant would change colors. LOL They refused to make good on the deal. I purchased many EE's from them, which half of them were mislabled. They told me these would change colors too. I tossed them, but this one really bugs me. Believe me, I'd rather just have the correct plant, but they continue to sell on ebay, and on the web, and refuse to correct THEIR ERROR. If they fixed the error by sending me the right plant, I'd sing their praises, but THEY DON'T CARE!

Hi Jeff, Both Brian and Plant Delights I think are excellent.Both probably get there plants from the same place.I would chose the lowest price because they both will work with you if you have a problem.I think tissue culture are harder to grow than a pup.The closer it gets to the end of the year the lower the prices should drop.I have been watching the ebay siam's and fewer people are bidding at the current price. I got a Red E Ventricosum banana late this spring. It did well in a pot getting quite large. About July I put it in the ground and did okay for awhile then started growing backwards (declining).. its pretty small right now..it really does dislike the hotter night temps as Eric (a previous poster) mentioned. I have grown both the green and red ones from seed in pots in S. Louisiana and they did quite well. They can get huge when they are happy. I'm going to put mine back in a pot again and see if it improves now that the nights are cooling off and it seems to be perking up a little. I think it takes the humidity better in a pot, based on my experiences. I also think they appreciate a little shade in the hottest part of the day here. I also grew these in AZ with basically no humidity and way above 100F temps during the summer they definitely hated that but survived with some shade and a misting system I had set up for my tropicals. My two Zebrina bananas are doing quite well, currently, in the ground and are beautiful. I've killed (or the winter, I should say, killed) 2 Siam Ruby bananas here but that was before I had my greenhouse techniques refined lol. ~Sjn

It was 60 degrees here this morning and I worked in the garden for couple of hours. First, I picked okra and blackeyed peas, having already picked tomatoes for a long time last night. I had to use the ladder to get all of the Tess's Land Race Currant tomatoes because that cage is 8' tall, and the plant has gone all the way to the top of it and then back down again. Today I am going to dehydrate small tomatoes and make salsa with the large ones, but I did spend time weeding and mulching the fall veggies until we got the phone call to come see the cougar in the trap. It wasn't a cougar...but that's a story on a different thread. I do not want an early freeze....no, no, no, no, no! This is the first year in ages we've had enough moisture in July and August to have a good fall garden and I want for it to last a while. I do have some floating row cover frost blankets that give 8 degrees of protection, so I might be able to get some plants through the first cold night or two. Then, if we had a few weeks of Indian Summer, we'd still get production. I can't believe some of you had temps in the 40s! That's just crazy. The Farmer's Almanac does forecast a very cold winter, but I haven't seen the Old Farmer's Almanac yet....and the NWS forecasts an El Nino, so that should mean a lot of rain beginning around December. I was cold enough at 60...not ready for 40-something, so y'all keep that cold stuff up there! Dawn

hey Rick,

I have had excellent luck with Wellspring.

I do know that the red abyssinian banana does NOT color up well in fullhot sun. They are like night and day. I had same prob one year- one plant in full sun on deck, one in partial shade- the sun one looked just like yours. the shade one was beautiful.

Move it now to a shadier spot (afternoon shade good). You will see a diff.

I had it in the shade in the back yard, shaded by the huge oak trees since I got it. Someone told me it needed to be in full sun to develop color, might have been them. So, I moved it up front in the nearly full sun for the past month, and it is the way you see it. It didn't really start to grow until it was pu in full sun. Same with my ALL GREEN nancy's revenge ee I just gave away. I don't need any more simple green alocasias, I just don't have the room. They told me it needed to get larger to display the color....well I grew it out, wasted my time since I purchased it, and it never changed. If they are mostly reliable, then something went very wrong with my order, and they didn't want to hear anything about it. Bad business in my book.

That's the way to do business. I don't expect things to go right all the time, but make AN ATTEMPT to fix the problem.

Hi! I have purchased from this seller. My dwarf orinocos turned out not to be dwarfs after two years of growth. I contacted Donovan, and he sent me two replacements. I know these are dwarfs because of their trunk...they are certainly different. The other bananas I ordered were correct, including Ice Cream, Basjoo, and a Yellow banana. I think I got my replacements from a well-written, kind email (not that I'm implying that you didn't do the same). It's a nice looking banana regardless. Good gardening.
