Fish Emulsion,manure and fertilizer?

Hi,

I just got some Manure to work into the soil around my Pisang Raja(Musa Belle) and was wondering if it is ok to water it using (Alaska)Fish Emulsion at the same time?

Also from the label I am not clear on how much I should mix to how much water?

And can I also keep using my 16-16-16 fertilizer(or switch every week?) with the Fish Emulsion and Miracle grow as a Foliar spray or just use the Fish Emulsion as a Foliar feed at the same time I am watering the ground with it around the plant?

How often should I do all of this.

I also plan on keeping my regular watering routine of 2 gallons of water every evening.

I know I have asked a lot of the same questions over and over but I really want this banana to do well.

Oh,and is it ok to cut off all of the leaves that are completely brown and holey or just leave them on? How close to the stock should I cut it?

The plant is getting another new leaf( the last one was 2 weeks or so ago)but no real noticeable change in height?

Do NOT work in the manure. Put it on top and water through it. Working it in will destroy the roots.

You do not say how big yur plant is, so it is a little hard to tell you how much how often. You can use any and all fertilizers. During acitve growth, they are heavy feeders. Don't bother with foliar feeding, just add fertilizer to the mulch/compost/manure layer around the plant.

2 gallons wouldn't even be noticed by my plants. My larger in-ground plants are getting more like 100 gallons every three days or so, when weather is warm.

Trim off anything that is brown or yellow. Keep ANYTHING that is green.

Hi,
I was wonder about hurting the roots if I were to work the manure into the ground.
I will just water through it.

My plant is now about 3 1/2 feet tall and like above the plant is getting another new leaf( the last one was 2 weeks or so ago)but no real noticeable change in height?

So when you say "You can use any and all fertilizers" does that mean I can mix and match at the same time or rotate every week?
Say this week I use Fish Emulsion and 16-16-16 along with some miracle grow...?
Or use only one(rotating) every week?
I'm not sure how often to feed it with fertilizer,fish emulsion,etc...?

Today I mixed 2 tablespoons of Fish Emulsion to 1 gallon of water and poured around the plant.Is that an ok amount to mix and give the plant?

I wont bother with foliar feeding and I will add the manure as you mention. The only thing is I don't have any compost to add to it.
I will also step up the amount of water I am giving it...and trim off the brown/yellow leafs close to the stalk?
I am just worried that I am going to burn the banana by using to much fertilizer.

MC, I'm 99% certain your Fish Fertilizer is Fish Emulsion. NPK, 5-1-1 is the same. What its size? Ounces? half or full gallon? It looks large. One of my FE is Alaskan, but much smaller than your container, without a handle. Yes, FE has an odor... :) FE killed a scale-infested Olive tree received from an online nursery, and citrus branches on either side of Olive. I spray FE in autumn, as a preventative before plants come indoors. While spraying leaves for insects, FE also acts as a foliar feeding. It's also used like any other fertilizer.. Add water, then fertilize soil. Toni PS. Odor lasts 2-3 days indoors.

I started using fish emulsion for my roses last year after it was recommended by Marissa at Greenmantle Nursery. Marissa grows her roses organically. I tried multiple brands, and they do not all smell alike--with some the stench is so strong it is enough to make me want to keel over. The difference appears to be in the way they process the fish, with some cheapy brands having the most disgusting odor. I have found two brands whose products smell MUCH better than the others and which give good results with my roses. My favorite is Gro-Tone from Espoma. It's 2-2-2, and while it does smell fishy, they've added mint which makes it less so. The other brand I like is Neptune's Harvest. Their fish fertilizer is cold-processed so as not to destroy "all the good stuff". It too smells fishy, but it is a much fresher smell than other brands. I use mostly Gro-Tone, and diluted to half the strength recommended on the bottle. I find that is plenty and works well with most of my roses (only a few are more avid feeders and need a boost from a powdered organic fertilizer). Melissa

I use fish emulsion for all my roses, both in the ground and in pots. Started doing this last year after a recommendation from one of my favorite rose nurseries, Greenmantle. I tried 3 different brands. The one I liked best is Gro-Tone made by Espoma. Gro-Tone is a nice balanced 2-2-2. It also smells better than fish emulsion often does. Gro-Tone certainly smells like fish but it's more like a fresh fishy aroma. Espoma added mint to make the scent less objectionable too. However it is pricey, and my local nursery doesn't intend to carry it as it didn't sell that well. I bought almost every bottle they had and stockpiled it.;) The other fish fertilizer I liked somewhat was Neptune's Harvest. The numbers on the bottle I have are 2-3-1. It also didn't smell bad though very fresh fishy(I think NH and Espoma use a cold processing method). The NH found at my local nursery is the mix which includes kelp, and I'd prefer not to give that to my roses as I don't think they need it based on soil and water conditions here--yours may be quite different. If I can't get the Gro-Tone, this is the brand I'll use, but their fish-only one which is 2-4-1. I can order direct from NH. The 3rd fish emulsion I used was made by E.B. Stone, fish emulsion with kelp, 4-1-1. It smelled ghastly, like rotten fish. Yuck, I did not enjoy applying it in the garden much less even opening the bottle. In addition, my roses did not respond as well to it as the other two. One reason may be that the water here can be very high in boron, and if the fertilizer also includes that micronutrient plants in this area may object (by showing boron toxicity). I've never seen Muskie in the stores so have never tried it. All the ones I used seemed to be in slightly different concentrations and thus the dilution rates indicated on the bottles were also different. I have used Fish emulsion as a pest spray will great success. Just dilute it about 10-1 with water and spray either early morning or late evening. I dont know how effective it is for scale but it does well for spider mites Mike

Mix them, match them rotate them, swirl, twirl, it really doesn't matter. If weather is warm, and they are well watered, you really can't over fertilize them when they are actively growing. On one that is snaller (I assume 3' to the tip of the leaf) more frequeant applications of lesser quantity would be better. Most things, such as the fish emulsion should have some quantity/concentration recommendations on the label.

Trim anything, anywhere that is brown or yellow.

Compost is probably available at your local landfill.

Thank you,just what I was looking for...
On the Fish Emulsion I just mixed it to what it says on the label for Herbs,which I figured was the best mix since a banana is a herb.

I trimmed off about 3 leaves today that were completely brown and then cut them into tiny pieces around the plant.
There are about 3 leaves left that are about 3/4 brown and holey with a quarter green left on them that I left thinking that it would be best to trim when they are completely brown?
There is two left that are still completely green...the new one that grew about 2 weeks ago(does have some small brown spots)and the newest one that has yet to unravel itself.
I figured if I cut the other 3 leaves off the plant would look pitiful with one and a half leaves.
Maybe I should cut the others off so it isn't directing energy to leaves that aren't going to be revived?

I will check my landfill for some compost,I hadn't thought of them as a source as our county is pretty tight like that.
