I broke down...

I had to start watering. I hate watering. Actually, I hate paying the bill that comes with watering, but nevermind that right now. I bought a cheap, whirlygig sprinkler like I had last year before I drove the truck over it. It works great. 30 minutes in 3 spots in the late afternoon (yeah, I know). The plants get all the water they need for a few days by soaking it up overnight. It cools the ground and most rebound from the hot sun. But I won't be doing this everyday. Twice a week, maybe.

Anyone know the steps to the rain dance?

Because of the terrain, we'd been getting late afternoon/evening thundershowers every day until recently. Now it's just been hot and dry, and although I absolutely love the weather, I've had to water my containers two, sometimes three times a day.

Nothing like wearing your breakfast, lunch and dinner I always say. I've been wearing my top wrong side out all day. Why? Because it is covered with little sparkly thingys and Sassi kept trying to eat them, so I just turned it inside out. Works for me. I always spill food on my clothes, I've often thought about starting a business of Fancy, smancy adult bibs for just that occasion. Just imagine a night out at a fancy restaurant, ordering your favorite feast and when it arrives, out comes your bib. We all do it Agnes, spill on, you're in good company.

I broke down and sprayed for thrips yesterday.

I had to spray for thrips a couple of years ago. I did some research of home remedies and came across a daylily hybridizer that uses Murphy Oil. The same product you use as furniture polish. Just put a tablespoon per gallon of water and spray away. Don't over do it because Murphy Oil is a light oil that acts to smother the insects. You have to spray it directly over the flowers and under and over the leaves. I did not get any damage to the flowers at all. In fact the spray seems to bring out a deeper color in the flowers. If it works you will actual see the dead thrips laying on the flower petals. The only other chemical that worked for me was Cygon. A very toxic and smelly chemical that puts an end to every insect in the garden. I will not be using it again. Hope this helps, Mike

They sometimes to possible break at these kinds of heights more so if they have bends..... if so it's one by one watch for slight off line bending signs to prevent....If seen they break fast along the lines of 2 -3 days several hours if they have bends Gravity likes them too Best of luck to you

I just got one last month, too, and have been unhappy with it. It turned out the battery charger wasn't working and they are sending me a new one. The owner told me that others had had trouble with that charger and he has switched brands. It does work well when it is charged, but I don't like paying that much for something and encountering initial problems like this.

Well we broke down last year and spent a small fortune on an irrigation system (mix of sprinkers and drip) as I had almost had a nervous break down the year(s) before trying to keep everything from dying of thirst. And guess what? Nothing but rain this year!!! I think we have had it on maybe 5 days in May and 1 in June! And I do kinda miss the exercise I got lugging the hose around...........

One of those rain catching driveways (sorry dont know the technical name for it) would of been nice during spring cause its HOT and DRY here and we need some of that rain now.

Sure wished I had one of those driveways with a reserve of about 4k gallons hooked up to a nice irragation system like nancy's. Ok ya caught me day dreamin there.

I went looking at irrigation systems you can install yourself yesterday. I've decided this winter, I'll be installing something simple to keep my gardens irrigated. I'd like to turn on one valve and have the whole place watered. Putting it on a timer to turn on in the wee hours of the morning, and off before I make my first cup of coffee would be nice. Of course, some areas need more water than others and some get no water at all even during long spells of no rain. I guess I need zones.

Especially with those Bruggies Token they are water hogs...lol at least yours are in the ground...Smart! I find walking and lugging around water is a great excercise program...Lost ten pounds..:) lol

I have had to water too! My poor Zinnia was soooo wilted, Hubby is supposed to be getting my a barrel to make a rain barrel, between filling the pool, hot tub and adding water to the ponds, I hate to water, I cringe at the thought of my bill.

Rosepedal, from everything I've seen, the brugs will overwinter in the ground here given about 6" of mulch. The lady I got my first cuttings from does that. And they do drink a lot of water. Spent all afternoon dragging hoses all over the yard.

We have been having daily heat advisories. In the 100's
Even with water somethings are burning up and some wilting.
I have just kept my hoses on drip an move them to a new spot every few hours. I hate to see my bill.

I watered this morning. I had so many plants popping I did not want the heat to wilt them. It was 81 degrees at 730 this morning :)

My mothers day gift was drip sprinklers (the self install kind with the black hoses etc)

I just ordered some replacement sprinklers by the brand called Dig, they are my favorite. I am replacing all the ones I bought in a local store.

I love the mist and drips that water better and I don't have to drag the hose around as much!

We have had so much rain, the only hose I have out is the short one by the porch door. The tipsy pots have only needed water yesterday and this morning. I don't even remember where I put the sprinkler heads or quick disconnects, oops.
I have to admit, the one gardening chore I don't mind is watering, if I have to. I talk to my plants when I water, lol.
I have a well, so no monthly water bills until it comes time for repair, that was 3- 4 years ago, new main line, blatter tank, new 1 inch line around the pool house. Months like that a water bill doesn't seem bad, I think all together the bills were over 4K.
What I do hate is the grass mowing! Gees, Monday night I had the 48 inch garden tractor mowing, 2 guys on zero turn mowers and the neighbor with his tractor and 5 ft finish mower all mowing at the same time to get caught up because of the rain and cool weather. tonight I need to finish with the walk behind mower in the smaller areas.

Picked up grounds at the coffee shop and dumped them into my 140 degree compost. With this hot weather I might get spontaneous combution when those grounds start cooking.

I watered some things, but not many. Too hot. 50% chance of rain today for what that's worth. It's currently 89 degrees, humidity 61%, dew point 74, heat index 97.
