Wrong place for every tree post (pics)

Its winter and I'm trying to organize pics on my pc and am coming up with a few winners in the "trees under power lines" category. You all take pics like this too?

and i can here the guy in the first pic complaining... they are butchering the tree i planted in my yard ..... PLANTED IN THE EASEMENT you mean ... i want to sue .. lol

What state are you in? Die back can be from a number of things including moisture problems, citrus pest and diseases. My first impression is that it looks like the rootball is staying too wet. The tree should always be higher than the surrounding yard so the water has a place to go. The retaining wall might be causing moisture problems by not letting water flow away from the tree. The dirt you piled up behind the retaining wall on the right of the photo looks higher than the dirt the tree is planted in. When it rains there is nowhere for the water to go and so it sits in a pool. I hope this helps.

Over watering is important, yes, but there are other things to consider too. I have a pink & purple fuchsia thing I got at Home Depot 9 or 10 years ago. It was in a hanging pot for a long time, and then it went in a half wine barrel several years ago. Then the barrel got shuffled around the back yard to about 4 different locations before I found one that made the plant happy! It gets watered 2x weekly in the summer, and whenever it rains in the winter. It's pretty happy where it is, shaded for the majority of the day by the house, the chicken coop and redwood trees to the south, BUT, it gets some direct sunlight every day. Just not much. I got 10 babies (2" pots) from Earthworks last Fall. I've killed 1 or 2 pretty fast, gifted 4, and the rest are stumbling along. Pink Marshmallow got cooked in the heat from the driveway, moved to the clothes line out back, (still too hot and sunny for it), and is now in the shade in the front yard, but under a redwood tree. We'll see how it bounces back. Or if! Feather Duster looks cute, appears happy in its smallish shallow clay pot, but it's not thrilling to me. White/white discolors too frequently and quickly. I thought I'd like it more. Mancunian plant looks fine, never bloomed this summer... Hanging plastic pot, on an oak tree, we'll see how it winters and then grows on in the Spring. Snowburner - died... whitefly, mealy bugs, withered, dead... Everything ELSE in the barrel is going gangbusters, bugs or no bugs! HeRi Mochara did OK, not thrillingly, probably needs a bigger container next year. Likes where it is, though. Tropicana - plant fine, but no blooms. Hopefully it will do better next year. My point being that sometimes it's your care, sometimes it's the location you stuck it in, sometimes it's the plant that doesn't like something. Do your research, and keep plugging away until you find something that likes what you do, where you do it. Voila! Pretty flowers!

Trouble is, I've seen powerlines moved so that trees (that were once safe) had to be cut down. There should be some sort of contract to guarantee that certain trees will not be lost, even if the power company decides on a new pole configuration thirty years down the road.

I honestly wish they'd just cut down the trees that have to be butchered as shown in the first picture. When they do it to deciduous trees, it looks even more stupid in the winter!

Gosh, those leyland cypress are hideous!

And yes, we cut this one down and replaced it with a flowering dogwood. I honestly don't know what the previous owner was thinking. What you can't see in the picture is the power lines. The utilities companies are lazy around here, so the branches off to the right were a tangled mess in the power lines.

That spruce in the background is gone too. I don't think the landlord is going to plant a new tree though. It was kind of way to close to the buildings. I might plant some shorter magnolias under the power lines along the street if the home owners will have it.

klavier. OMG, thats one sorry A__ tree. Whats the point in even having that one? Cut it down, ship me the wood!

i never met a tree trimming crew.. who wouldnt rather take it down completely .. and never have to come back... as compared to a crew who would rather butcher a tree ... and they will usually do it for free ...

its the home owners who create these monstrosities .. first the one who planted it.. usually in an easement they new about when they bought the house... its all there in the plat ... which should have been reviewed at the sale of the house ...

and second.. the one who is attached to it ...

no.. i pay high enough electric and phone rates ... i am not interested in subsidizing some idiot by paying for the moving of the power lines .. so they can have a tree ... the tree is a renewable resource.. its getting to the point that the money in my pocket is not .. get rid of the tree ...

as for the CO. that owns the lines .... do not allow people to create the problem ... police your easements 60 years before you have that tree become a problem ...

just remember.. you dont 'own' the spit of land between the sidewalk and the road... so it really isnt your tree ... whether you bought it or not ...

and you dont 'own' the land under power/cable/phone lines ... you can not plant 'your' tree on someones else property.. and claim the higher ground ...

if just one more person understands this.. i am happy ...
