Orange tree leaves turning yellow...
Comments (6)I am not a fan of mulching under citrus except for brand-new trees under our current stressful conditions . Citrus do not like to have " wet feet " and prefer naked sand around them . This is a really contentious issue among home owners but the pros do not mulch at all . Infrequent deep watering is best for all trees rather than a light soaking . I have yet to water my established older citrus even though we are over 30 days without a drop of rain . I am about ready to break down and water the heck out of every one of them . Some orange trees just turn yellow for no rhyme or reason . Do the best you can and that's all you can do except , try a rain dance for us all !...See MoreWhy is my Snow Mountain Hydrangea Tree leaves turning yellow?
Comments (17)cjsm, thank you so much for the follow-up. I am hearing rather conflicting messages from different people though - my local nursery people told me to keep on watering, since this is a new tree and the root system is not well-developed yet. On the other hand, I hear what you are saying and the overwatering theory in clay soil (which I also have) definitely makes sense! I think I am going to stop watering it for a few days and see what happens. You know, it's hard when you see the leaves drooping in the strong afternoon sun and still not water it! At least it is getting cooler around here these days... BTW, cjsm, my tree was planted in a big planting hole on a slope, and I had plenty of cow manure and things amending the local clay soil, so I think I don't need to take it out to raise it more. I hope this does the trick! Thank you again for your info....See Morealmond tree leaves turning yellow and falling
Comments (3)Jessaka, Yellow leaves alone only mean stress and the stress can include, but not be limited to, overwatering or underwatering. If the leaves are turning bright yellow and quickly dropping, and there are no dark specks, spots or splotches on the leaves, then my best guess is that it is overwatering, although it is impossible to know without seeing the tree. I just cannot imagine your trees ever got dry enough this winter to cause the leaves to yellow and fall now. Even here in very dry southern Oklahoma where drought is common and my fruit trees get very little supplemental watering, I've never lost one because of a lack of moisture--even in years when we only had 18 to 22" of rainfall. Transplant shock is a possibility though. You can see transplant shock as late as 12 to maybe 15 months after a tree was transplanted into the ground, although it is more common in the first 6 months after transplantation. A late case of transplant shock can appear months after the damage to the tree was done because trees can operate for quite a while off stored energy. If your yellowing leaves have any specks, spots, or splotches that are brown, black, purplish or some other odd color, then your tree likely has a bacterial or fungal infection. Comments (9)Anna's will go dormant but still have some leaves left on. If it is an Anna. Phoenix has had some very low night temps in the last couple of weeks and I agree with avid that it is going dormant. I am much colder (snow) and some of my apple trees still have some leaves. The rest of the orchard is leafless. I would not worry. If you receive no rain in the next couple of weeks then you may need to water a LITTLE. Even though it is dormant it needs a little water. Just FYI never have a landscaper pick out your fruit trees, plant them or trim them. Bad idea. If you need help you can come on this site or go to the fruit/orchard site and people will be glad to help you and you will be glad you did. Camp Verde...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
