Cutting leaves after blooming

Hi everyone - I'm new to this forum and really glad I found you. Currently I have 12 bulbs ( 2 of which are reblooms from last year) and 10 are new. I bought most of them as gifts and circumstances prevented me from seeing the recipients so I'm planning on gifting them next year in nice pots if I can manage to keep them going and happy. Here's the question ...

Most of them were neglected for a time - the bulbs are healthy, but the leaves are really long and gangly. Is it ok to cut them down to about 6 inches and continue on with putting them outside for the summer (when the weather is ok) then do the rebloom thing? I'm just not sure if that will be harmful to the bulb or not and haven't really found anything on the web about it.

TIA
