Anyone with Anna, Golden Dorsett or Einshemer Apples?

We're thinking of picking up a low chill 3-1 from Raintree, but my husband wants to taste test the apples first. It's pretty hard to find any of these in the store. Any thoughts or ideas where I could find some currently? I know it's not the season but if you miraculously have some, we'd be willing to buy a few. :D

I have an Anna and a Golden Dorsett and thought about getting an Einshemer. I just bought the Anna a month ago so I don't even know what it tastes like. I got my first crop off the Golden Dorsett last year but picked them at the wrong time. Either that or they are tart rather than the Sweet/Tart they are described as and I prefer sweet over tart.

There are other apples that do well here so I will try to help you though it may not be the way you want.

I would hope that the tree or trees you purchase produce fruit you will enjoy. With that in mind I will ask some questions about flavor and include some trees that do well here.

Ask yourself what kind of apple flavor do you prefer.

Very Sweet
Sweet
Sweet/Tart
Tart/Sweet
Tart
Very/Tart
Complex Flavors

Anna is Sweet/Tart. (grows well here)
Golden Dorsett is Sweet/Tart to Tart/Sweet.(grows well here)
Einshemer is Tart but gets mealy and I don't recommend it.
Red Fuji is Very Sweet.(grows well here)
Pink Lady is Sweet/Tart.(grows well here)
Honeycrisp is Sweet. (grows well here)
Arkansas Black is Sweet/Tart (grows well here)
Granny Smith is Very/Tart. (grows well here)

I'm sure there are lots of others that grow well here too but those are the ones I have read the most about.

Multi-grafted trees can be a pain in the butt getting all the varieties to fruit. Do you have limited space or is there some other reason you prefer a multi-grafted tree?

We grow the trees your looking for locally, I propagate our own rootstocks and graft all our own trees. It's to early in the season right now for tasting the fruit but in a few months I should have some unless the tree sells.. LOL
As far as a multi-grafted tree I can make one for you as long as you give me enough lead time to do so and let me know what rootstock you want. I also just got our propagation rights for Pink Lady's but there's a royalty fee on them.. (pink lady's and Gala's are not added in the link yet) but I have those also..

ravenh2001: I'm afraid it is, and that's all they ever color up as they ripen in the worst of our heat (late September). I got the cutting from a tree in the mountains and confirmed the variety, and as you'd expect the quality is much better up there. Odd to think that Northern Spy would be low-chill, but they're very reliable here and get huge. You're probably used to seeing it with red striping and blush. At this stage in the photo about half of them will be brown and rotting on the inside, with just about a 1/4" of firm flesh under the skin to keep the shape. On the other hand, the Bramley tree next to it will have firm, crisp, sweet/tart juicy apples that look much like the ones from a cold climate.

Pink Lady is also notorious for this; the new leaves just push out the old ones. I've tried stripping the leaves by hand to see if it makes a difference for blossoming date and productivity, and it affects neither. The only reason I strip the leaves is to spray dormant oil and also to make it easier to paint the trunk and horizontal limbs white.

This year I left about 15 on my tiny tree (I'm sure that was a bad idea?). Also I don't have a Dorset Golden. I have a fuji and an anna. My neighbor down the street has a 3 in 1 apple tree that I'm sure has Dorsett (if you're talking about pollinators). The thing is they all didn't set at the same time so I'm not sure all will be ripe at the same time... This is the only one that looked ripe, it had a pink blush on this side, with the other side being mostly green. I actually picked it today! I gently (I think...) tugged it and it popped right off. It has some bird damage but I think most of it may be okay... Strange how the one with the most bird damage ripened first. It's not as nice as your apple but here it is: Can't wait to find out how it tastes. ;) Also a bit nervous! :p

Looking for DG scion, its hard to find one around here that goes dormant in the winter. Also looking for any disease resistant varieties. I have Mutsu, Fuji, Anna, and Hawaii to trade.

turtleman49 I have an unknown (unknown to me) plum that I would like to graft onto a rootstock favorable to our E. Mesa soil and climate conditions.
Do you do custom grafting? If so for how much and how much turnaround time is involved?

I can take care of the after care myself.

I know grafting is not hard to learn. However I'm worried the tree is not going to last very much longer and don't want to take the chance of messing it up and losing the cultivar.

I have about 80 plum rootstock left, I was going to be budding that with cots and our plums Wednesday, if you can get me some viable bud wood I can do it for you in about 3 minutes.. just get the wood by the place here ASAP..

We have an Anna and had apples last year. We weren't thrilled with them. Skins a little tough and the fruit sort of bland sweet a little bit tart. The tree does very well and is an easy fruiter.

Anyone with Anna, Golden Dorsett or Einshemer Apples?
