My yard is buzzing

No doubt about it- I'm seeing way more bees this summer than in recent years. My 3 butterfly weeds were just abuzz yesterday with honeybees. The Yvonne's salvia and digitalis draw more bumbles than honeys it seems. But all my other flowers seem to draw both, and it's not just a few bees. Most of my beds are stuff with rudbeckia, now in full bloom, and the bees are loving those, too. Ditto echinacea and zinnias.The tomatoes have a lot of blossoms and are setting a lot of fruit, too.

I'm certain that their number has increased a lot this year, at least around here. But I have used no pesticides or chemicals for at least 5 or 6 years.

Well, after a couple weeks of nearly constant drizzly, rainy, cloudy, cool weather, there isn't a lot of buzzing going on here, except for a few bumbles. But that will change soon, hopefully.

Normally I do have lots of pollinators - including honeybees - having been organic for many years, and several farms in the neighborhood (at least one has beehives).

Fungus gnats are only interested in soil that is kept TOO moist so the odds are 10 to 1 that you are over-watering, keeping the soil too wet. Plants will "wilt" just as readily from too much watering as they will from too little since it causes root rot. So let the soil dry out and if the plants begin to wilt, wait. Give them at least 12 hours before watering and you'll likely find that they have perked up all on their own. From then on use the finger stick test to determine if they really need water of if you just "think" they do. ;) You don't indicate your zone or location in your posts - you really need to do that - so can't judge your weather demands but 90% of gardeners over-water their plants and fail to understand that plants can cope with too little water much better than they can with too much water. My DE Filter is buzzing and may explode!

DE filter grids can become impacted with dirt in the fabric. The DE is supposed to catch the debris. If the system was run for a while without DE, or without enough DE you may have a problem. You could try removing them and cleaning them in a very light acid/water solution. If you still get high pressures and short filter cycles, you need new grids. The buzz is a mystery. I had a call when I did service about a filter making noise, but it was, how do I describe it, going tink, tink, tink. It was pegged on 60psi! I killed the time clock and found a valve was nearly all the way shut. Most filters are rated for 50psi. If it gets above 40 I would shut it down and backwash it.

Your lights are probably causing a feed back on the electrical lines. You can talk to an electrician about adding line conditioners on th LED circuits.

The honeybees here are in love with Mignonette. And we are having our fair share of sweat bees and bumblebees too. Apparently, they are doing what they are supposed to do, because I've got plenty of little tomatoes.

And I expect to see more, as the Agastache is getting ready to bloom. It's definitely a welcome sight, seeing them all over the place this year.

Me too! I have lots of carpenter bees, bumbles, honeybees, sweat bees --- much more variety and greater numbers than in previous years.

My DH suggested we rename the butterfly weed "bee weed" because they are just packed with bees.

I've also enjoyed watching them doze on my accidental larkspur.
